I called ECP and they do a cheap Lion one for £20 all in, or a premium one for £25. Halfords charge £35 for the privilege.

I'd expect to knock 30% off the halfords price with a trade card

So I fitted a new £19.80 Lion Battery, with the main battery disconnected, and was immediately able to work the central locking without the need to press the 'secret' button. I suppose that this would suggest that the diode is buggered? Any advice on where to start looking for this?

2 wires come away from that battery. One goes to the diode then fuse 1 in the boot (20A) then to the main battery. The other goes to fuse 4 in the boot (7.5A) then to the secret switch. So, pull one fuse 1 and see if it still works. That will tell you if powers getting passed the diode. That is probably in the fuse holder in the boot somewhere.

Should the cables going from the main battery to the backup battery be ready a full voltage? Or does this ok imply a knackered relay?
