Is this a good idea? I am thinking of buying a used set that looks less tired than my own original billies but they are from a European S2. I take it the balance would be different due driver sitting position? Would a swap.of the LHD side shocks to to RHD side fix any such imbalance?

Won't make any difference. The part numbers for the both front or rear dampers and springs are the same, doesn't matter which side they are mounted on.
