My poor YZF-R6 hasn't turned a wheel, or the crankshaft for that matter, for 3 years. Time to breath life into the poor thing.

It actually looks ok in this photo but its in a pretty sorrowful state. It'll need a lot of TLC.. which is being documented here

Love the r6  3 years is a long time with no use though. How come you didn't start her up now and again?

Sad isn't it. I did start it every so often for about 6 months, but my interest just wained. And that was 3 years ago.

Just hoping it'll run up ok once I've done all fluids, plugs, filters etc. It needs new tyres. And brake pads & fluid. Cables need lubing. (e.g. throttle doesn't snap back shut). Hopefully the chain is ok. I've started stripping it down and its a right sorry mess. Its been home to several hundred spiders from what I can tell..

V sad :( Maybe should have got rid and let someone else enjoy/look after eh? Never mind, the fact you've got the interest back and a project going is positive. Too nice a bike to be left to rot as some barn find in a few years time. Best colour too, never liked the total black. Old neighbour of mine had a white and black one. Best of luck with the rebuild thumbsup

Love that particular shape of R6 Useless at posting pictures but my 848 saw daylight yesterday, but that was after a five month hibernation. In the meantime my leathers have shrunk, plus my neck & shoulders need a little work again.

Wasn't that the model that revved to something crazy like 16k rim? Good luck with the resto, hopefully not too much to do!

Cheers Captain.

Yes the tacho on mine red lines at 17,500rpm. However it over-reads by about 1000rpm if I recall correctly. In fact Yamaha were forced to address that on the next year's model to make the tacho a bit more realistic..

Looks like fun! What class/series did you run in?

I loved my RSV one of the best bikes I've owned:

Cool Vimesey.

The RSV-R was an ace bike. I raced it in BMCRC supertwins class, and also back then there was an MRO series (a stepping stone from club racing to British Superbikes) that did a race class just for that bike.

I did a couple of those races. In my first I finished 3rd at Brands.. Bike Number 21 - all white. Qualified 2nd on the grid..

Steve, you're a talented rider. Very few bikers that could get to the front of a series like that. I remember speaking to you about bikes at Snetterton last year. Good to see you getting back into it again. Any further progress with the r6?

Ah well it was a while ago now.. I couldn't do it now. I've done oil & front brakes. I updated the thread on the r6 forum. There seems more interest here than there! Perhaps I should update here?

I fished out my leathers and *just* managed to get into them. Diet needed.
