£2500 to do the whole job, he obviously doesnt know how much a rear clam costs. Clam, exhaust, grille, poss undertray, poss rear light if it caught that, theres more than £2500 in parts there.

How's that work? Their insurance offered the hire car. Frankly if the hire car is the deciding factor on writing it off or not - then I'd rather have no wheels for a few months and have it all fixedI hope this goes well for you. But once they look into repairing it and realise how much a rear clam is and the lead time, they might be quick to write it off as the hire car prices go up. There's a few horror stories on Pistonheads of hire cars coming back to bite you in similar situations, leaving you to pay the hire car bill.
If you use a claim management firm, they give you the hirecar rather than the insurer, this "can" be a controversial point with the insurer who might only payout the lowest cost they can get a car for, so you'd pay the difference etc. Its rare but happening more and more where people think they have to have a swanky replacement while their car is fixed/written off.
Oh, don't let the car leave your care, don't let it goto a garage unless you are with it and don't leave it there.

sorry to hear this mate
if someone hits u from behind you will be safe as its nearly always the person who rams u get the blame
Rear clam fitted and sprayed is most likely more than £2.5k on its own
Best off buying it back from the insurance (cat d) and keep ur eye out for a 2nd hand rear clam and then go from there

Keep hold of / control of the whereabouts of your car at all costs. DO NOT let the insurance company take it away for assessment. Insist they come to the car.
Get her insurers to make you an offer once they write it off (this will happen unfortunately). Argue like mad about the valuation sending in sales listings for similar mileage and spec VXs (start collecting these now). Then buy it back, source a second hand clam / exhaust / light unit etc, respray (I know a very cheap guy) and purchase some tasty upgrades with the money left over.
PM me if you want some advice. I'm unusually experienced in this area

Anyone have any experience with Jon Seal at Lotus Hardtops?
Thing is the cars been with Podium Prep now for 4 weeks and they've not even quoted... I've decided to move garages and this guy above is the next closest as he's in Leeds. The insurance company say they're willing to cover the cost of moving the car and so it looks like it may all be moving along a bit faster. He's even got a rear clam in stock and available for me which is perfect.
However, I don't want to move it twice!! Hence my question above

Ahhhh cool, I'd seen the name Jonnyboy before but didn't realise it was that same guy. I've heard several people mention him (even before this, and on other threads).
Jon, I'll give you a call on Tuesday once I've confirmed moving it with the insurers (they said ok yesterday but I still need to provide them with the addresses of where it's going from/to)
Thanks!! Andrew
