I've had a sheet of theRs4 style grill lying around since last year and as we're all growing old waiting on the Splam grill group buy to materialise I thought I'd replace my knackered chicken wire while the weather isn't great.

One thing I noticed is the gap between the crash box and clam isn't quite thick enough to accommodate the 10mm thick mesh at the top and the tow eye bracket will need turned around.

Anyway I made some little carbon fibre L shape pieces and bonded them around the inside of the front air dam to screw the mesh to and fitted it looks like this....

...I stood back and looked at it...

..and I can't put my finger on it, but I just didn't like it, in fact I hated it so fecked it in the bin.

I havn't left a hole for the tow eye, so the grill is sacrificial if I need to tow the car any time soon. I'll cut a hole eventually when I get circular piece of alloy with some countersunk hex head bolts to tidy the edge of the hole if that exists.

 You probably only hate it because you know it's different. Chances are some one who didn't know the car wouldn't look twice. But yeah going by those pics the OEM-ish one does look better.

I agree. I really liked it on some of the other guys cars I've seen photos of on here, it just wasn't for me.

Great to try something different.  R&D does cost.  I think it looks a bit like garden mesh.

I wanted to take the he clam off anyway as there a few cracks appearing and I needed to see what sort of repairs had been done under there.... I wasn't disapponted

Mmm, what is the opinion as to whether the Audi copy stuff means you are more likely to have your radiator punctured?

Kindly, PH

Dunno, but maybe bigger bugs and bits from your heater vents :)

What did you use to fit your grille mesh?

I assume you mean adhesive. The mesh itself isn't actually glued on in mine. Because the RS4 stuff doesn't bend I had glued on (with sikaflex or similar) some little plasticky L shapes and it's screwed to those.

I need to fit a grille similar to the original one that can be bent, but I probably only have 2 hours of dry time before I drive home 100miles at motorway speeds. So I'm trying to find a solution. I'll Google sikaflex. Thanks.

I have the honeycomb grill but then fitted the Carbon Fibre V in front of it.

I like it :-)

Where's your tow eye?

Turned it around and tapped the tube at the rear, the longer part is only to stick out into the v, I have a Steinmetz type grill in front of my mesh now :) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Here's a close up of the mesh, if you want to find as close as possible. http://www.vx220.org...sh#entry1473719

I have the original lying in storage, so if you need specific measurements, let me know.

And for the rest of the voltures; no it's not for sale.

Thank you both, I have already oredered a mesh with smaller 3.5mm x 5mm holes which is the same as the mesh on the bonnet. I want the smaller holes so you can't see inside the crash box as much.
