I need to get some fuel out of the tank as I've got to remove the fuel pump, the tank is full to the brim, I can't disconnect a pipe and use the fuel pump as its failed, how else can I drain the tank ? Thanks

You cant get much out through the filler due to the baffles in the tank. Suspect the easy answer is to just lift pump out and loose a bit and when lifted pump some out with one of the manual plastic ones. They are very cheap and fine for a few times to use in my experiance Are you changing through the top access hole or dropping tank? Is the pump def the fault and not a fuse or the impact awitch triggered? DG

Definitely the pump as you can hear it prime but no pressure on the fuel rail. Yes changing it through the top access panel (new hole made) The tank is full as I had just filled it up, I'm assuming the hump above the pump position will be full of fuel, tank is the 48L pro alloy one

Bugger you will have some fuel spare then :( You could try disconnecting the fuel line to the fuel rail and see if you are able to get any out turning the pump on Pressure would help drain from fuel filter but bit of a pain getting unbolted sometimes and a cleaner area to drain from DG

Why not jack the car on the pump side so the pump is the highest point.  Saves a whole host of trauma.

Realistically it looks like you should probably just drop your tank... Or.. Open the top up and pop a pipe in and syphon it out.

If you have a new pump, there may be a way of using that to pump the fuel out?

Cant you drop a small jiggle tube or syphon pump in the tank after removing the fuel pump?

It's the fuel pump I want to remove as its failed, but because of the shape of the pro alloy tank the level of fuel is above the pump, probably 16 litres worth

No joy removing fuel feed to rail? Thats the quickest and easiest Beyond that its fuel filter point as lower than tank and or put hose directly onto pump outlet and symphon it Last option is a very clean tub and smell of petrol :( DG

If the pump isn't pumping yet it is free, could you not piggy back another pump onto the original outlet and pull the fuel through the knackered pump?

Inline pump could pull fuel through nice and quick. Syphon option prob less hassle In fact depending on atate of pump you could try a bit of fuel hose on fuel rail metal pipe and syphon off that ;) DG

possibly the easiest option, but you will still lose some fuel when the pump housing is removed

Do you think fitting this http://pages.ebay.co...id=291043332905 to the pipe from the tank to the fuel rail will suck the petrol out ?
