As title says....need to do some work on the mota and but can't find locking wheel nut key. Looked everywhere - can't believe it. Have a suspicion that I left it on the bolt and it has spun off as I've driven away, but who knows.

Anyway, and addive for getting these off? I've bought the Halfords locking wheel nut removers, but they are too fat to get into the rear wheel nuts as the recess is to deep and the remover has a fatter collar on it that won't go down the hole.

Anyone else managed this without damaging wheels?

Many thanks for any advice.

Cheers

Kev

Tried hammering a socket onto the locking nut ? If they are not too tight that could do it

That's what I did to mine when I lost it having left it on the wheel. It's a 17mm bolt so I went with a 15 if I recall (15 or 16), and smashed it over the nut. Ruined the socket but got all 4 off in minutes.

Stud Extraction For The Allan Key Bolt Caliper Started by RabnaKS, Jun 06 2015 09:35 PM stud extraction rounded off nut/bolt See if this tool kit is suitable? Irwin, they're in a spiral that you tap on your bolts head & locks on for you to undo? I'm sure the large one is for wheel bolts? I was told cost around £15?

Hey, cool. Did it require a new socket for each?

My locking wheel nuts came off by smashing a 17mm socket on. The socket was tougher than the bolts. All 4 off in under 10 mins and socket intact.

When you have solved it buy some standard nuts. Locking ones are not worth the hassle.

Same happened to me recently.

Lazily, I just took mine to the local tyre shop and they removed the locking nuts for me in about 5 mins for a total of £10.

Would have tried it myself, but for the hassle and need to buy removal tools or ruin sockets, I decided it was worth the extra couple of quid to get someone to do it for me..

Do people still use locking wheel bolts?

I don't see the point unless you live in Liverpool..

If it's that cheap I'll have a ring round tomorrow... Just need some standard bolts to replace them.  Is it the standard length S2 bolts I need all round?

BTW - Can they do this with the car on the floor? I don't trust tyre places with ramps/lifts.

Yes, all done with the car on the ground. Literally took them 10 mins in total to remove all 4 locking bolts.

£10 even included new bolts!

This was 'cash in hand' but even worst case I cant see it being much more, and given the time/hassle involved with doing it yourself its money well spent imho.
