VX'ers

When researching the vibra tecnics left and right road mounts I found some negative feedback on the forum.. Suggesting they weren't worth it. So I thought I would balance it by saying I have found them a great improvement.

I have just moved from standard left & right mounts with poly inserts front and back to the uprated vibra tecnics mounts left and right with the poly inserts still in front and back.

Main improvements are gear shift quality which feels fantastic, and throttle response.... the car feel so good now the engine isn't bobbing up and down under power. The car finally feels as one and not as though the engine is on a giant bungee!

Very very pleased!

I'd agree the gear shift is better , but NVH is worse , I now get a lot of gearbox noise at cruising speed that the old mounts damped out

Very true Steve, more gearbox noise but lets be honest if you're worried about NVH the vx's is the wrong car anyway.

I find the car just feels a lot better connected, throttle response feels fantastic... not that you'd be aware of what that is  ;)  :gayfight:

Im also impressed with the vibra technics mounts.

My car is a track car and I broke the standard mounts on the first track outing.  Hundreds of track miles later and the vibra technics show no sign of letting up.

I agree with they are a bit noisier and the car shakes a bit more on idle but its a small price to pay for a better "feel" of the car.

I'm actually only using 3 mounts as my down pipe and turbo doesn't let me run a front one and they work fine.

Can you not mount the front bracket further along the chassis "sill" Craig, and drill some holes to attach? I guess you'd have thought of that anyway..!

I probably could work something out but there's no good/strong points to attach it to the gearbox the further away from the bell housing you get.

We have beefed up the rear mount with some 10mm plate and larger bolts in the box and chassis, so seems fine :D....so far

Thanks for the feedback.

It makes me wonder if next time I am in there I might swap the side mounts to Vibratechnics, or make my own out of some rubber gubbins and threaded bar from eBay. The reason is, when I am peddling hard I think I can feel the engine moving about (sideways) when in the middle of corners when hitting bumps etc. Also I get that thing sometime when I change gear that the gear is fine, but when taking it out of gear if feels as if it was never securely in the gear in the first place - does that make sense?

Which ones did you fit? The competition or the road ones.

I too have the road ones now and the car does feel stronger somehow and I'm sure handles even better, there is also slightly more vibration coming from the engine area but only in the sense that the engine feels angrier, not in  a bad way. Though that may just be the new Saab engine.

The wobbly engine mounts are only to prevent vibrations coming through into the cabin etc... Pretty sure most race cars have solid mounts no?

There's a danger you'll work harden the chassis mounting points too, which isn't an issue for race cars because they have much shorter lifespans.

Yes you wouldn't want anything more than the road version, if you phone Vibratechnics they will tell you even if you only drive the car to the track don't go for the competition mounts.

The road mounts are still damped, they just don't move as much as standard ones as they're not massive lumps of rubber filled with oil!

A good discount could go down well. Just looked up on their website & for a pair of left/right your looking at £280.06 inc vat & delivery. Sounds a bit steep for a pair of engine mounts, or would those with them fitted say they're worth the money?

My standard mounts broke and pissed horrid oil all down my brand new dampers.... very annoying. I didn't want this happening ever again, plus I'm trying to make the car as reliable as possible for track work so it was a no brainer for me.

As you say its quite a lot of money if your standard mounts aren't broken, a good opportunity to upgrade though if your mounts are getting old or your standard mounts are gone.

Its a relatively subtle difference, but if you're someone that is willing to put up with some gearbox whine for a better connected feel to the car and a more stable engine. I.E compromise the car for track work.... go for it.

If this was just a road car I wouldn't do this (Sort of wish I hadn't done it) . It does definitely make your car feel rougher.

Huh? The side mounts are just chunks of rubber?

The rubber is filled with oil.
