I also had an email from Steve (I guess the guy who runs weathertec) as he spotted my order and this thread. I mentioned that I'd previously used RainX on the VX and PIAA silicone wipers on the golf so I was keen to see how they all compared. He seems a pretty helpful and friendly chap. I have a voucher code for a 10% discount if anyone else is looking to order?
I had a go at removing the RainX with elbow grease, it's come off the main swept area fine but the other bits of the windscreen i couldn't shift it off. Still, the swept area is most of the windscreen so i should easily be able to tell if this stuff is better than my previous solutions. You really need to get the RainX off completely before using
Ombrello - it stops it from bonding properly. Give the glass a clean,
then use the precleaner towelette ensuring that the screen is white all
over. Then its a case of rub hard or use an electric polisher with a
terry pad to abrade the surface - keeping it damp with a light spray of
water if need be.
The way to tell if the RainX has been totally removed is to pour water
over the screen - if it breaks up - there's still some on. If it sheets
evenly over the entire screen you're OK.
Shall report back when the english weather returns to usual service levels
