I agree with no grease in the threads and no [color=rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;]thread lock. 

Use this example for how to lubricate a bolt, only the area that as no thread needs to be lubricated.[/color]

Does that help with stopping dirt and grit get to the threads then?

No, but I fail to find that relevant, lots of cars and airplanes have exposed bolts.

 

I guess if that really worries you, than the best option is to use a corrosion block spray like the one used to protect the chassis after the bolt has been installed.
