My insurance is up in a couple of weeks, and have been ringing around a few and think I am going to go with Henderson Taylor as their quote isn't much more than I am paying on my Admiral Multi Car policy.

For people who are with them already, how was the value on the agreed valuation? Did you get an independant valuation, or just go with their own? Also, did you suggest the value, or did Henderson Taylor?

For me with my insurance company I have everything written down with the part and the price I paid. I then worked out what it's worth to sell each part as used, plus the value of the car standard. Then put it across to them and they accepted that. Then had to take pictures from all angles and send it to them as proof.

For me they wanted 6 photos plus a written valuation from a trader.

I'm with HT and in the process of getting an valueation through Club Lotus (I'm a member). When I asked about AV with HT they said they just needed a letter which I thought was a bit vague. Other brokers that I've used had some form of Pro Forma which required info like condition of the car, mileage, modifications, cost etc. As HT nor ERS had a Pro Forma I filched one from another insurance company. All the information is with CL now, and when I receive the approved valuation I'll be sending a copy to HT. Sorry for all the abbreviations btw :)

HT sent me a proforma which is pretty much identical to the one for classic car policies that I found on the ERS website. The proforma states the requirement for the photos and letter. thumbsup

Interesting I phoned ERS and they said that they didn't do a pro forma. I couldn't find it on their website and they couldn't find it either?? ETA/ forgot to say that I'm paying for the agreed value from CL. Hopefully that will add some credibility😕

Interesting Sutol... not in any way challenging your account :) I've no reason to doubt my cover or the service I receive from HT but it definitely has an informal feel to it :)

Yes 'informal', maybe too informal, hence I want to make sure everything is not going to count against me if there are any claims.

Yes HT certainly feel 'informal'. My agreed value comprised of some photos, filled the form in and a valuation from 'Lotushardtops' Jonnyboy on here as he had done a lot of work on the car.

HT accepted that with no questions and were happy to wait for photos as I didn't have access to the car at the time.

Their track cover is very informal too. Just a quick email saying when/where/with whom and it's done. All seems to easy!

With Classicline I've been told i can get a valuation of the club (i.e. you guys) with pictures and it would cost me nothing or i could pay a 25£ admin fee and send them pictures from all angles and they will agree a valuation with me.

My other cars are with Classicline and agreed values have been done through them. Went with HT for the VX as their Track Day cover more suited my needs.

So I guess as a Club member you're effectively Judge and Jury as there is no one that is set up here to do Agreed Values, I wonder if Classicline are aware of this?

Must admit, when I rung up to get the initial quote I think it was the quickest I've ever been! I've messaged Jonnyboy about doing a valuation for me, so can hopefully use that with them when I take the policy out.

Make sure when you get the policy documents that everything is declared. Convictions and accidents were missed off mine!

Just curious to why people want an Agreed Value?

I'm just over a month away from all my car insurance so I will be looking around for prices again.  But why bother to pay more for an agreed value?  I always make sure I put in a price when the insurance form asks me what my car is worth, altho using Google Compare it says my car is worth £2745, but I always say about £9000, assuming that I could buy another NA for a similar price.

Hi Giles, if you have no agreed value, it doesn't matter what value you state, their negotiation start point would always be less than or equal to the book trade value.  Not an argument I wanted to have.

I suppose the only to find out how good they really are is if you have to make a large claim.

This is my thinking, it's only £60 extra over my Admiral policy, which I think is worth the piece of mind that I get exactly what I want if the worst happens. I would be worried what the book price is on a relative rare and specialised car.

Agree with Adam. Having just had my NA written off as a motorbike went into the back of me and caused what looked like minimal damage, rear undertray little bent, chip out of light lens over, little bent exhaust heat shield and the rest just a hole in the clam, then for peace of mind I would get an agreed value. With NA prices ok I got £9500 off insurance so I could have bought a similar NA, but it's all the bits you change that start to add up that you might need to shell out for again on another car.
