Hi guys

basically, ive got a pair of headlights here that were in a crash, theyre more or less still ok, but the balljoint mounts inside the lights for the pitch/angle thread adjustment are completely busted.

ive got a couple of ideas on how to bodge it back together, but thought Id ask if anyone has a/some lights that are otherwise busted beyond repair, that I might be able to salvage a couple of bits out of??

Thanks in advance!

Ed

I've got a few spare lamp units (indicator, dipped and main)

I would suggest epoxy putty to repair the plastic ball joints. You can mold around the ball joint to create a new cup.

my lamp units are good, its the plastic cups which are cactus. epoxy was on my list of things to try. plastic RC ball joints might also be possible. or perhaps some abs tubing, heat formed to cup the ball, then epoxy them in

a couple of original ball joints wouldnt be bad though

I might have a few of the ball joints, i'll check later.

I would suggest that a wider redesign is needed - my headlight design replaces the plastic stems for the ball joints with a platform which the projectors attach to. This adds a lot of strength as the load is supported across multiple legs/stems

Unfortunately I don't have access to much while i'm at work. I've quickly drawn out the mount suggestion. The projector bolts into the circular part while the feet bond to the rear of the headlight cluster.

Projectors are attached to the platform using jack nuts and threaded bar.

Should be easy enough to knock up the platforms in fibreglass.

Depending on timing, I may be able to offer complete headlight units, but as i've had to approach another manufacturer, my timing has been pushed back a bit.

Fixed mine by screwing the bolts back, and extending the bolts with rod extenders after cutting a slot in the back of the housing. I didn't want to split the whole lamp. Some washers, nuts and bolts, the fix the projector to the back of the lamp so it's still adjustable. Not as quickly adjustable as originally but worked OK.
