Hi

Ticked the stage 2 box, loads of fun, got used to the power within 2 days (thats on the road, track would be a different story),  would have made a great track car, without getting me into to much trouble.

Ticked stage4, Totally different kettle of fish, 3 months in, and im still not bored, infact still learning to drive the car...im not exactly sh*t scared, when I plant my right foot down, hence itching for more.

Just trying to get rough figures in my head, not going to do any mods this year, stage 4 is fast enough for now!, fingers crossed a car with a forged engine could come up for sale,  i missed out on the recent sliver stage 4.5, would have been ideal, the owner was looking for a fast sale and couldnt take up my offer, back to the drawing board.

Im looking for more, infact if im going to forge the engine, want to reach full potential in one hit.

I sort of have a head started and a half decent stage4 base car, charge cooler and full 3 inch tullet.

How much would it cost to get my current engine forged without taking it to one of the big boys Courtney/Thorny, id be looking to get it done through possibly a forum member or part time mechanic.

Looking for prices with labour included, just fag packet figures.

Forged engine fitted =?

Low mileage 2nd hand Gearbox  + new clutch+ quaife =?   (my gearbox is on its way out, im hoping it will last me a year, until the upgrade to save on labour)

Turbo =?

Remap= 500+

Engine mounts =?

Have I missed anything, im hoping this post will allow me to start to start preparing for the jump, hopefully pick up 2nd hand parts ready for the conversion.

maybe a long shoot, if anyones selling a forged turbo engine, i would be interested.

Heres the current spec

I think you'd be better off selling your engine and installing something different into yours.

The new VAG TSi engines are great and will push out close to 400bhp just with a simple remap.

Our engines don't do well past 300bhp. Many have tried and paid the price

Currently rebuilding my stage 4 car as the head gasket has gone. Fitting some LEH Mahle Pistons and Steel rods while we're at it.

Should take the car to Stage 4.5 Technically but it will just be nice to actually be near 300bhp which I don't think the car's been since we got it.

Edit: Just to give a vague idea of price the rebuild has cost around 700-800 and the Pistons/Rods have cost a further £800

All DIY :) so no labour costs

Intake manifold , then let me remap it and add racemode.

you can run 360 torque/bhp with standard internals, although some arp bolts would be better to change at next oil service.

a hybrid k04 turbine and k06 compressor would give a greater spread of torque without the delay of a big turbo

Sell and install a A20NHT with upgraded turbo.. Bolt in job and it'll be a chunk lighter than the existing engine or VAG options.

You've a lot of the hardware (chargecooler, exhaust) required already.

Your bottom end can be fully rebuilt with Wossner pistons, PEC rods, all new gaskets etc for approx £1600

KRS Stage 3 K06 turbo ~ £600

Or if you're feeling flush, Owen Developments 65HTA ~£1600

Piper fast road cams ~ £475

Piper single valve springs ~ £150

EDS copy inlet manifold ~ £150

2.5" custom top hat ~ £60

Water meth ~ £300

Deka 630cc injectors ~ £200

Remap ~ £400

Quaife F23 LSD ~ £600

Helix clutch ~£250-500

That's similar spec to what I'm running. I'm making 300bhp at 0.6bar boost, going to have the map tweaked next month and expect to see over 350bhp with ease.

Inbox me if you need any more info bud.

There's lots of warnings on the forums about not going 'a stage too far' and possible reliability problems for those that do. I'm not gonna start searching the forums, but Simon's car is one that springs to mind.

I'm not saying it happens to everyone, but it's worth considering.

It's usually either torque or bad mapping that kills the engines around this power. Get a decent map on it, plenty of people I know running approx 330bhp on a standard engine, mainly on track too.

Not looked for a while but my tfsi vag conversion was very similar costs to going stg5 with selling back let setup etc 380-400 easy and very reliable along with far better technology oh and possible 50mpg 😏 with nice linear throttle response I am trying hard to talk myself out of a 2015 rs3 lump and putting in a vx as my own car......friend has a new rs3 and finding the urge of dsg harder to dismiss also. Not the right time to take on a new project but 5 pot tfsi mmmmnnnnnm Love the newer ecu crackle pot at idle do childish 😎 The newer tsi 2.0t oil pickup is not as good and something to consider in a vx that can generate its fair share of g 😊 DG

Hey guys thanks for the response , ive also had a load of pms, above has got me thinking about open options before i take the plunge next year, thanks again

out of interest has the vag conversion come down in cost since it was 1st started?

A20NHT looking at the net and from advice here, are good for 400bhp on standard internals

Both good options

A20NHT low milage one on ebay for 1750gbp http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-INSIGNIA-ELITE-2-0-TURBO-PETROL-ENGINE-A20NHT-2009-2014-/171956871733?hash=item28096da235:g:MIIAAOSwNgxWD9DUAG

VAG can be had for around 2k.

I suppose both carry a premium, as they dont drop straight in.

You can get a new engine from Germany for not much more than that used one..

And it will drop straight in with an NA gearbox housing (cheap) and side engine mount..

realisticly just how much torque do you want because this will determine if you have to go custom clutch and gearbox.

what sort of torque curve low/mid range and top end expectations because this give some idea of turbo sizing

and how much budget and timescales are you limited by.
