Hi all

 

Just wondered what paint ahs been used by those who have painted callipers and go on track.

I did mine with a foliatec kit, did it as defined and made sure the callipers were incredibly clean prior to painting, but, they lasted 100 miles on the road on the way to Castle combe then literally were bubbling when I came in after my first session and have no heavily discoloured.

That paint is listed as good up to 300 degrees c.

Mine were powdercoated by Hofmanns when they refurb'd them. Have been spot on.

Did mine with an Etech kit and some decals for the lettering. Done one track day and about 500 miles driving and no probs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I used smooth hammerite on mine its been on for a couple of years still look fine

Used the Halfords branded stuff on track and never had any issues.

Weird that I use the proper stuff ddo it properly and all goes bad, seems that's the way things are for me now!

Or you're just abusing your brakes more than most and need to invest in cooling.

Has chill painted his? The way he burns through brake pads his must get pretty hot.

Martins calipers looked really nice just before he went on the track...

painted mine with smooth [color=rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;]hammerite doesn't drip, although I don't track/heat mine up like you[/color]

My brakes have extra cooling!

 

Have to say what were very smooth neat lime green callipers (oh yes, I do like a bit of lime green) are now a paint scheme that looks like a toads skin, kind of cool in that it would be very hard to get that effect normally but not really what I was after!

Waiting to hear from Foliatec as to why it may have done this .

I used to use hammerite. I never even cleaned them before painting and that stuff never came off any car. I now use Matt black heat paint as I don't like the rust but don't want bright calipers either.

I painted my with 2 component car paint with hardening. Both current and last car with great results

What I used was 2 component and the prep couldn't have been better done. Am awaiting their views on how they look now.

Do not use Foliatec caliper paint!

 

Following me writing to them, they have said that some colours aren't as good at dealing with heat as some others (the lighter ones), so guess they mean that on the lighter ones you can see when the lacquer gets burnt that's within the paint. They apaint is meant to cope with 300 degrees apparently which I'm sure mine wouldn't have reached on one session of Castle combe

There adverts don't state any temp differences.

I now have the option of getting them sand blasted clean or chipping it off or painting over it.
