It wouldn't work because there was so much interference in that area, and I had to move it elsewhere.  So I suspect behind the left hand seat though convenient, is not a good place to mount the TC unit.

Fuel Pump perhaps?

I don't know, it seemed to manifest itself most on the downshift.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has managed to run their VX TC without the filter - I was beginning to wonder.
Out of interest, when you made up the filter from the diagram, what wattage were the 4 x 10ko resistors?

I'd need to check but I'm pretty sure they were little half watt resistors

My electric circuit expertise is extremely limited (almost non existent) but that's the value I was expecting.  Thanks. :)

Hi there,

It's me, the one with the filters, which the schematic shown above is from. :)

While my build I had bad wheel signals on all 4 channels, especially at low wheel speeds, rendering the launch control useless below about 20mph.

I did a lot of tests getting rid of these noises. Nothing helped. Also mail from RL marketing told me that all Lotus-Elise-based cars share that problem, it was known and accepted as "state of the art" somehow, not fixable.

I eventually found the solution with the filter bank after some stages of trying to get better wheel signals, first with only serial resistors (relying on parasitic caps inside the RL TC itself) and then adding more parasitic external capacitors which led to a working TC using the configuration shown above.

I work as a developer for car electronics for about 20 years now and am specialized in a way in EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility). As a result I know that there are problems in this area you cannot break down into formulas and find a simple do-this-get-that-solution. EMC is a very complicated topic, it's some kind of "science" where knowledge and expertise are balanced, one does not go without the other and there is noone out there who is perfect in one or both of these disciplines...

So yes, there may be ways to do the build where you can omit the filters. Lucky if you got to that point. But just lay one cable another route through the car and dices are thrown again.

And yes, maybe the fuel pump (or its supply line) is a source of trouble. But the unit is shielded and if one has only noises on one line and another has noises on all four ... start again.

If any of you KNOWS the root cause for the noises then pass it over to the community. Would be a great deal. I do not. But I know some 80...100 cars running with the filter in a good manner - in contradiction even to the Racelogic expectations. And some few are running fine without. Congratulations to the builders!

Anyway, just one more announcement: filters are now and will stay out of stock in the future. I transfer the informations into public domain, so anyone may build its own ones if he thinks he needs it. But noone else should make money with it, that would not be fair. So it's some kind of CC-by-SA-license as known from Wikipedia. You may reproduce it, but you may not make money with it. And it would be nice if my name or website lotus116.de will keep connected with the filter unit. Cause I'm a bit proud of it. Because it solved the problem of signal noises for many users. Including myself.

Happy Christmas to all of you!

:)

Hi CS,

Do you know where I can find the link to the filter that you designed ?

I've been on your website but I'm not very good with German and can't seem to find anything obvious.

Regards

Adam

CS doesn't have a VX any more, so not likely to answer.

The filters are essentially capacitors. I've been told that GM have some as standard parts in the US.
