Just had a dyno run today to see how the car was running out of interest. All the work was done before I bought it, so I'd never had one done.

Took it to regal who I know don't have the best rep here, but as it was just a dyno run I didn't think it would matter really. Their dyno over reads, I'm sure of it because I had my celica done there before. They are so close to my work so I popped down on my lunch break.

Any way made:

306BHP @ 5299RPM

370lbft @ 3706RPM

I will post up a picture of the graph soon.

One thing that is slightly strange is that it's making 1.45 bar (~21psi) of boost at just 2300-2400RPM. So it makes peak boost at that low rpm and then tails down to finish at about 1bar by 5800RPM. It's just a smooth flat decline from the peak down to 1 bar. I spoke with Courtney and they said that it should make peak boost later than that. Does this suggest something is wrong, like maybe the actuator set wrong?

Does anyone have any dyno graphs showing boost, I didn't seem to find many with the search, they are mostly cars that are running bad rather than good runs.

I'd say that your guess of the actuator pre-load being too low (or too high, I can't ever remember the way round this wastegate works) could be correct. You could adjust it easily enough yourself in small increases and see if the torque moves further down the RPM.

Has your turbo/actuator ever been replaced/fiddled with by the previous owners ?

I guess you mean what mods. Courtney stage4. So vrx turbo and injectors etc. Guess I'll need to check the actuator. I'd take it to Courtney but its miles from Southampton.

You can check the opening point of the actuator yourself, simply connect a foot pump (with a gauge) to the nipple on the actuator and pump it up. Watch to see at what pressure it opens, then ring up CS and check this is correct.

The diaphragm in them is known to fail occasionally, but this low RPM problem is more commonly due to the pre-load not being correctly set (or perhaps the pre-load nut unwinding due to vibration and/or lack of lock nut).

I presume its undesirable to have that boost so early in the rev range? Interestingly I spoke with TMS, the guy was helpful but seemed adimant that the turbo on those cars even a vxr one would never make 1.4bar, he told me to discredit everything from that dyno run because regals dyno over reads by 25%. He then told me the max over boost they map at TMS is 23psi, isn't that like nearly 1.6bar? He said to me that there is no way that my car is making 1.4 bar over boost as the turbo would explode. .... Lol  confusing. I'll test the actuator with a pump and see when it opens. Then give Courtney another call.

Forgetting the dyno read outs, how does it drive ?

Too boosty and undriveable ?

Pretty much yes.

Courtney seemed to suggest that it shouldn't boost that high at such low RPM.

I read a lot of your posts before mbes2, as you seem to have had similar issues to what I am finding. Did you ever get yours sorted before you moved to the Exige?

Dyno graph. Couldn't seem to edit my original post for some reason.

MBR updated my mapping and it became loads more driveable. But my boost never dropped away even at 7500rpm.. was still strong 21psi.. pulled like a train Maybe drop matt a msg to see what mapping option's are now available.. or sizeten for his view on his custom maps

Great thanks, I take it MBR is http://matthewbentle....uk/motorsport/ right?

I have to agree that I find my boost line quite strange. Doesn't look like any of the others I've seen running the same kind of mods.

How long you had the car at stage 4 ? Was it always like that. Might just be a poor map.

Yes that's Matt. If he's too far ask Sizeten to map it for you....as Mark said above thumbsup  #teamvxracing

Matt and I help each other out on the engine software, its just that he has the dyno, whereas I offer the mobile service. But the software is the same, so you will get the racemode and all the other special VX stuff, which Courtenay/SuperChips/Regal/MMG won't have.

Is this a full stage 4 with a pro-alloy charge cooler or just a stage 2 intercooler?

I believe there's an optional red "Danger to manifold" light for the cockpit, though there's extra fitting involved in that. Would probably be a worthwhile upgrade for your Ricer though. :P

Its full stage 4 with pro-alloy charge cooler. I do have paper work with all the work that was done by Courtney, the main bits were VXR turbo and injectors, and the charge cooler.

How long you had the car at stage 4 ? Was it always like that. Might just be a poor map.

I bought it like this, but I didn't realise how aggressive the map was until recently. Thought I'd get used to it but it doesn't seem like it.
