Yes he was on here:

This is the one I bought: http://www.vx220.org.uk/forums/topic/142675-vx220-turbo-stage-4-2003/

I don't know for sure how he found it to drive, he said it was very fast of course, but he was looking to sell so wouldn't want to put off a buyer. Back on track ( who did work on this car ) did say something to me about the above owner phoning them up while on a track day ( after going stage4 ) and basically said the car was undriveable because of how the boost comes in, especially mid corner when trying to feather the throttle.

Mbes2 - do you have any dyno graphs from when your car was running better? I'd be interested to see the torque curve and boost levels.

A little tweak of the nut on the actuator can make a big difference to how quick or low down the rev range the boost comes in. It's a bit of a pain (difficult to access and very hot after a run) but when I fitted a new actuator I just kept adjusting it by a turn until it felt right.

Worth getting this actuator too if you are on the standard one that Courtenay fit. (halfway down page) Its a nicely solid piece of kit in comparison to the usual one.

Thanks for that very helpful! I've got the standard one you mention not the one you pictured. I had a peak down at it today and its wound pretty tight, lots of threads showing at the bottom of the rod after the lock nut. I'm going to tweek it a little tomorrow and see it it makes it better.

If you want to tweak boost vs. rpm get an EBC.

I've hot an EBC from my old car I had thought about fitting it to the Vx. If I fitted it and ran 1bar flat across does the ecu self adjust fuel for what boost the MAP sensor reads? Just to test out how it feels. I tested the actuator today it doesn't seem to start to open until at least about 17-20 psi. Typically though I looked to adjust it a bit and the lock nut on the bottom of the rod is completely seized, the top one I could get undone but once that's undone the bottom one just tries to spin the actuator rod, its really suck on there. Might have to file 2 small flats onto the actuator rod to get a spanner on it? Anyone had this problem before? Its not like I could even replace it cause you can't it off haha.

Try spraying the offending nut a few times with some plus gas, then try locking 2 extra nuts together on the very end of the shaft, you can use these extra nuts to stop the shaft turning while trying to loosen the seized bottom nut.

I imagine its quite common. they get a little rusty and very hot. Mine was pretty stuck although I did manage to free it. Just cut the thing off and get a turbo smart one :)
