Hello Guys, I thought this might interesting to folk.

I was looking on Gumtree and there is a VX220 for sale with only 420 miles on the clock

https://www.gumtree....rld-/1209151467

Would almost want it but then would feel too guilty to drive it and I don't have the room for such a big ornament

They were about that price new, no? In which case, a failed investment and - more importantly - a complete waste! :(

I would guess the original owner had the funds available as they were selling about 20 cars and bikes I believe. I think owner 2 will get more pleasure out of it. It was an interesting but sad sight in that dusty garage.

First thing I'd do would be to service it and check/replace all of the dried out hoses.

Probably a good £2-3K needs to be spent on it to make it 'safe'. Which, when you consider the purchase price, does not seem like a good investment in the slightest.

I keep reading how low millage cars will need rubber items replacing I.e seals hoses bushes etc . Is this actually true. I can understand that items may not have been changed that would normally have, if the car has been run but how would it cause items to perish prematurely. surely wear, sunlight, heat, cold etc would have more of a detrimental effect. Does anyone know if the recent low millage ones on ph have needed all the rubber items replacing ?. I ask as i have owned and stored cars and have actually found things to be quite opposite to what I have read.

In my experience the only issue we have seen was a slave cylinder. I think the opinion on stuff drying out and seizing is based on your dad's old Austin or Ford. Modern materials are much more resilient. I would have jumped in the black turbo and driven 200 odd mimes home no problem. You can see its been moved from its original location and I very much doubt they did anything other thank rotate the crank before firing it up. Tyres are the same. Stored right they are fine. My own car has 2001 original tyres. No hard tread blocks or cracking. Makes for less dramatic forum posts but that's what we see on the ground here.

£24K - £30K new.  So yes a definite failed investment. Should've just put the money in a savings account - at least it might have kept with inflation ;)
