Drive it. Keep it. Enjoy it. Simples. Suspect you'll kick yourself if you sell it given its something you know you enjoy driving and its value to you in terms of it's limited depreciation.

Reading this with a lot of interest, i'm in the market for a vx, without even seeing this conversation I had already decided not to look at that vx or even pm asking about, (sadly its about 10 miles from where i live according to autotrader - which is gutting!) -  due to two points.

1. Its got 120k on it, way to much for me.

2. At around £6k my own mind tells me its not going to be in mint condition.

In my mind i would read gaffer1986's points with the oppposite as a potential buyer looking for a vx on that budget I would use his points as a bargaining tool - in my mind if people read the comments made and its put them off vewing your vx they are looking for a perfect vx for £6k...good luck with that.

Good luck with the sell, i'm sure for the right person its a great base car to work from if they had the knowledge time and skill.

1. if you have read this with "a lot of interest"  then you would have known that the mileage is not an issue.

2. "mint" vx220s are selling from 12k so no, its not going to be mint. 6k is cheap if you ask me 50% off, what the hell do people want?

It comes down to what you looking for, if your not looking for a mint car this could be perfect for you, if you are then why the hell are you posting about it? you know its not mint and you don't want a mint car, what the fcuk is the problem?

Just throwing it out there, I bought the VX from bradley. Hes a really nice guy, and I hope he decides to get another VX/Lotus in the future. He filled it the VX for me too! Very thoughtful.

I've been looking for quite a few months, I ended up deciding, I wanted more of a project, to SC etc, so I don't mind a couple of bubbles, it was more import that its mechanically perfect, and ideally with all major "issues" fixed. As the price of VX's has seem to have gone up from a few years ago.

I am very happy now being the new owner, the car drives lovely and smooth, just need to tart it up a bit. But for me, perfect bodywork is a pain in the arse. I always end up worrying about adding stone chips.

I bought the VX to keep though, I much prefer the NA SC route, than my VXT.

Hope you enjoy it, it's one of the nicest riding VX220s I've been in and seemed very mechanically sound from what I could tell. I'm glad Bradley sold it and feel bad that I may have made it more difficult for him to shift it, was never my intentions and will think before I post a comment about someone else's car in the future regardless of my feelings towards it.

IMHO there is noting wrong with what you posted it. An honest account is fine. just maybe a little more subtle next time

Hope you are right, I have been holding onto a VXR for years now as my son wanted it, he lives in Norway so we don't get the chance to use it much although I do keep it up and running all the time.

We took it out over the Christmas period and bearing in mind he is now 6'-4" it is too small for him. :angry2:

As an example of price rises, VXR56 was advertised for sale by Jimmy in June 2010 for £17,995.

Six years later the same car was up for sale by Jonnyboy for £23,000.  And it sold quickly I believe.

When I'm old these cars will be even more special than they are now. They're like a good cheese.

I bought mine in 2014 for just over £7,000. Replaced Sachs suspension with Quantum's, did a bit of preventative maintenance, added some track wheels and tyres and sold for around £9,000 in 2016 (with ~10,000 additional miles). Not sure if because of appreciation or improved spec.

so will probably sell for well over £25k

The price you'll (you'd) pay Jon or the price you'll (you'd) sell it at?

I think that one will go to a private punter or a speculating dealer that doesn't know the market. It's had too much exposure and I think every chancer in the country will be having a go. I'll be making an effort but the other couple of auction ones I've seen have been 20-30% over price before buyers premium.
