I think I need to invest in a battery charger / conditioner, that I can leave on constantly in the garage. Just wondered what people are using or recommend?

Thanks Ed

I've got a one from Lidl which was £13.99 and it's absolutely spot on.

Oh and when you take it apart it's CTEK :)

ctek, halfords are doing one for about £37 inc delivery. the 0.8 model which is fine for our little batteries.

I have a CTEK 5.0 for my campervan with leisure battery. Quality bit of kit and i love the 'quick connect' that you fix onto the terminals. I use it for my VX but will probably get a 0.8 as well so that i can have both vehicles permanently connected.

Put it back together now and see if it still works.

Likewise, I have a Lidl Ctek and a Commutech which is a slightly different shape but does all the same things.  Both are permanently connected and both work just fine.  Anyone know where I can get some of those two pin and keyway connectors as I want to have longer leads?

serious question...

..why dont people just run it up to when the temp gauge kicks in..or take it for a spin once a week..

done this since mid Novemebr and have no problems in starting.

..oh and alarm is off...who wants to pinch one of these in winter must be mad ...

Mine is tucked at the back of a driveway, with two cars in its way and I can't be arsed to move them, go for a drive in the VX and then replace them in the same order once a week.

I was sick of going back to a flat battery so I got a Lidl conditioner last year and it's been flawless. Touch wood.

Thanks all, I was looking at the ctek ones, wasn't sure if the 0.8 one was sufficient. I might pop to Aldi tomorrow though. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

It's a valid question but frustratingly, I've been disqualified since November and my wife, who won't drive the VX or the 530d anyway, is now laid up with a deep vein thrombosis.  Sometimes things happen that you never thought of or expected, then you have to find a way to deal with it!

I was hoping to find the plug / socket already fitted to the Commutech which has a male plug on one pair of wires with both pins shrouded and a female socket on the other with both sockets shrouded.  I emailed the French importers but they didn't even bother to reply!!

I know what you mean but unless your battery is utterly dead (in which case get a fresh one anyway) then the 0.8 in reality does all you need for our small batteries. I'm a sucker for marketing and bought the 5.0 :D I will be buying the 0.8 to be dedicated for the VX. How lazy am I that I can be bothered to switch the 5.0 from my camper to the VX. It would take all of 5 minutes.
