Just a quick one.

The Brother in law is a bit of a knob and decided that being a prick whilst driving is for him and ended up sliding his car into a kerb at 20mph (so he says), he told me today the garage has said his rear sub-frame is bent and that they can't fix it as they don't do that kind of work but recommended a place locally that will.

Anyone have any idea on how much bending a sub-frame back into place is likely to cost and if indeed it's a good idea to even contemplate it?

I've read a few good reports on doing so but so many more bad reports!  Or is a replacement a better option?

Cheers for any help and advice.

Giles.

I personally wouldn't entertain bending back or even trying it. Expect to pay in the region of £450-500 for a replacement used one.

Cheers for some speedy answers.

The car is a Mitsubishi Lancer GS2 2l Di-D on an '11' plate and we only paid 3k for as it was a CAT C (front end damage), was thinking it might be better off going through the insurance and getting a payout for the car.

I haven't been able to find much 'online' regarding bending a lancer sub back into shape as it mainly comes up with Evo's

If you buy a used one look at it very carefully. I was tucked up by a cuntpuffin on here with a repaired one that had seen the same damage as the one we were replacing.

*Yes* but I think the subframes are different.

Ebay have some for less than £50!

to be honest a subframe is not designed to be repairable, they are supposed to bend in an accident. Time to buy another one .....

This is what I've told him.  If the subframe is bent surely something else is bound to be out of place too?  The garage only had 'free' look, so when they saw the subframe was bent they stopped looking.

The nearside rear wheel is giving a lot of 'reverse camber', it must be at 20 degrees pointing out at the top!

Cheers for the comments guys :)
