Probably preaching to the converted here... but if anyone is considering putting on the 1" ARB, do it! Even for just road use I'd say it's beneficial, tightens up the front end, and the reduction in roll means noticeably less understeer. Can't wait to try on track.

PS. There is a place in hell for the person who designed the mounting point and used allan key bolts :ffs:

Agreed - total ball ache.

What setting do you have the bar on?

Gone with medium for now. Goes with my medium stiffness Nitron Street series I figured...

Not as standard.

However the Cornering Force ARB kit includes a fixed rear ARB and front blade ARB.

I have a cornering force set up, blade front and conventional ARB rear.

Sadly have not driven the car enough to comment on it.

Track days coming soon.

Still got a brand new MBR front arb to go on, how long did it take to fit out of interest?

Whole afternoon. But a garage would get it done quicker. The bottom bolt (for the chassis mount) is obscured by the wishbone, so you need a chopped allen key to turn the bolt, after jacking up the wishbone. The top one has an access hole which is too small for a normal socket... so I had another chopped down allen key and a 6mm socket on the key.

Plus there's a pointless riveted on panel that blocks it. Needs drilling/dremel. And... the droplinks will most likely need cutting off too.

Does a VX need a rear ARB?

  Discussed here http://www.vx220.org...-anti-roll-bar/
Summed up by this comment:

OK, to take it from the top! Our cars have the engine/gearbox sitting over the rear axle, placed nice and high with a narrow track meaning a nice big moment over the contact patch. This means there is plenty of load transfer through the twisties and to keep your load sensitive tyres in intimate contact with the tarmac you need to make the transient movements of the car as progressive as possible. In my reasonably extensive experience of these cars the best way to do this is really fine control of the slow speed damper movements to nurse the tyres into generating more grip. Anything that upsets the rear tyre and loads it too much too fast will reduce the grip limit and the rear ARB is one of these things. I had a good play with rear bars when I was racing the GT3 with Lotus and couldn't find a setup I was happy with so left them off. I have since tried several other cars with rear ARB's, including CF ones and always found they effect the car in pretty much the same way. The VX is longer wheelbase than the Lotus so they are more progressive at the grip limit anyway but I still don't think they are effected in a positive way by a rear bar. I will caveat the above with the fact that all drivers are different and what helps one driver might hinder another. Going fast around the track is as much about getting the driver comfortable and confident than anything else.

I don't think that thread is going to inform anyone of anything very much    :)

The important factor is balance within the suspension system, and yes uprated front ARB's and rear ARB's can make a large improvement to the car's handling when blended with all the other components and setup by someone who really knows what they are doing.

If you consider changing the front ARB, sticking a rear one on and nothing else you are far more likely to throw the car out of balance than improve it, despite the flatter cornering fooling the arse dyno it's a big improvement.

The rear ARB is used to finely tune a near perfect setup and will not cause the unwanted handling tendencies mentioned in the thread.

If you are informed by the garage that it will, or has when they tried it you probably need to go somewhere else to get your car set up.

:)

From the research I did, here and Seloc, it seemed that there was no point in putting on a rear ARB... all the race VX220s and Elises seem to cope without one.

And, stiffening the front actually stiffens the back as well, because you get less dive on the front meaning the diagonal opposite rear pitches less. So this bar should give me more traction on exit.

The reason I run Cornerning force solution (rear ARB + adjustable front) is also to allow me using softer, more comfortable, spring setup on the road without comprising roll compared to standard....

How stiff is the CF blade ARB on full stiffness compared to the EP 1" ?

Front or rear? My rear is off the car at the moment and i have to say it exerts minimal force when testing it static on the car

The CF front is 1 1/4" but the blade allows it to go both softer and harder I believe.

It's also designed to work with the rear bar.

But as mentioned above it really isn't about just changing the ARB, the benefit comes from the harmony of all the suspension components.

If you want more exact info Simon is always happy chat about your requirements.
