Thanks for the suggestions, and the wiring diagram. I've had the underside removed and discovered the car has a fuel leak. Maybe this will solve the problem once I get the tank replaced. I know Courtney and hangar do the extended fuel tank. Are there alternatives that could be a bit cheaper? https://cvws.icloud-...DmxZDbT_I&teh=2

That's where the pump is fitted, so it's possible it started leaking when the new fuel pump was fitted. I'd be surprised if it's the tank

I'd go with a heavily knackered egr valve. Mine was borderline undriveable when the valve went screwy

I'm with Fezzasus. Make someone have a look at the fuel pump connectors.

I'll also be suprised if it's the tank. Use the fuel pump inspection hatch to check.

Next question... (yes, the car is still in the garage). The bottom plate has been removed and a crack in the fuel tank discovered. Before anything else can be checked, this needs replaced. Does anyone know where I can buy one at a reasonable cost? Thanks.

One day this car will be back on the road... but not yet. Now the probelms the fuel pump. I have tried 2 units and neither solves my problem. Initially i bought a unit from glencoe, but this was before we realised i had a crack in the fuel tank and some damage to whatever the pump attaches to.. this didnt fix the problem and was removed. I then had bought the upgraded pump from elise-shop but it doesnt fit the vx... http://www.elise-sho...340r-p-732.html Apparently i need to find a suitable pump with all the connectors and sender unit. Somethings cracked on the existing pump... Can anyone offer any suggestions before i try get this right for the third time please?

I have had the same problem on 3 other cars, a peugeot, a vw and a vauxhall

Symptom,  cuts out when hot, won't start again until engine has cooled down

I have replaced the knock sensor / rpm sensor   they get called different things

basically when the engine gets warm / hot enough, these sensors go open circuit and stop sending a signal to the ecu and the fuelling / spark timing goes down with them      hence cutting out

you may not get an EML or code stored, if you do get a code it will most likely tell you something along the lines of a mis-fire.

only other thing I would advise, buy OE, not a cheap as good as type

faulty egr will cause rough running and most likely produce EML - would not prevent it from starting

I once had my car cut out when I went over a big bump. I put it down to me not resecuring the relays in the boot after I had had the clam off. Is it worth replacing the ecu and fuel pump relays in the boot and making sure they haven't been loose over time and caused a bad connection at the relay pins? It's a simple and relatively cheap fix and would explain why people keep calling out the fuel Pump as faulty..? Does it store any faults when it cuts out and won't start? Also what coolant temp are you at when it cuts out? Is it always at the same temp? Is there a temp displayed?

Initially, I went with the symptoms of the temp being high and it cutting out and then restarting once cooled down

however, today mine cut out and would not restart, I removed the fuel pump relay which is in the boot, I cleaned the terminals and re-fit the relay,  car then fired up first time

this is actually the second time I have had this problem.....

Hopefully yours does the job. Thanks. Apparently its the new design and a different size to the one on the NA VX... I really have no clue.

All this has been going on since i hit a bump hard. I think were finally getting somewhere now the tank and hopefully pump are sorted soon. If the problem still exists at least I dont have leaking fuel any more... i need to get those problems fixed before looking at the other suggestions. Hopefully it doesnt come to that.

An S1 pump will never fit the S2, it is the wrong seal type, wrong sender type (3 wire pot, not 2), wrong sender orientation, and the wrong flange mounting size for the seal to work.

This will fit the OE VX or the ProAlloy tank if required simply by changing the seals (available from ourselves). The sender arm will also fit the PA tank correctly.

This is actually a TRUE HP pump not an OE replacement, it is OE quiet, uses less power than an OE pump due to the highly efficient turbine architecture and it is also a dual input unit which can use fuel from either the canister or directly from the tank.

Refill times for the canister is about 4 seconds with the pump supplying full output to the engine i.e return fuel is not counted as part of the refill times, this is quite important as with educators the output falls with a drop in return fuel.

If you need something for over 400 bhp NA or 360 charged then we also do fully worked conversions including a high capacity terminal connector and a fully matched eductor (jet pump) to match the pump selected.

These conversions come with a 3 year warranty on the pump and a lifetime warranty on the work.

All our pumps are E85 compliant

:)

Thats about 20-25 now to my knowledge who have DIY fitted a Glencoe/Walbro only to have it cause issues for a number of reasons and had to swap it back out again.
