Afternoon all

My TMS stage 2 VXT is down on power.
Put it on a Dyno today and I'm shocked at how little power it's making!

Max power = 125.9(hp) @ 4650 rpm
Max Tourque = 154.9 (ftlbs) @ 4150 rpm
It builds to just over 1 bar of boost then after 4500rpm the boost rapidly drops.

Compression test, smoke test fine. No warning lights. Not using any oil or coolant.
Smokes on cold start then clears which I've been putting down to condensation.

It’s booked in for diagnostics in a couple of weeks but i've got two track days booked before then so be great to find the problem and fix it quicker!

I plan on going stage 4 (possibly further) before the end of the year but would be great if i could get it back to its stage 2 former glory first.

Any advice on what could be causing this madness would be great appreciated!

Jordan

Normal culprits are, boost pipe collapsing under load, faulty actuator, or some sort of boost leak. Air filter is a decent shout but it would have to have a small bird in there to have that sort of a loss

It is misfiring, stuttering etc?

Thanks for the ideas!

Mine has a pro alloy intake pipe which seems solid!
Just read how to check the actuator I will have a look at that now.

No it's running fine (except for the lack of power   :angry2: )

Boost solenoids? But that seems silly low. You'd feel it was slow on the road with that power. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

Thanks I will add Boost solenoids to the list of bits to check!
I knew it was down on power and watched the boost gauge fall flat after 4500rpm which confirmed i had a problem.
I really didn’t  expect it to be that low but I'm sure it is correct because I watched other cars go on the same dyno straight after and produce the expected figures.

Could be a lot of things (possibly even several things compounded), best to take it to a genuine expert who knows a VX Turbo inside out or your bill will likely rocket.

If it falling flat my money would be on a split pipe or a pipe coming off. Have you checked the inlet pipe run all the way to the Tb?

Was that power on the wheels or flywheel?

What octane fuel are you running

And what was your IAT.

Also check for DTCs in case the ecu has some partial limp/protection mode due to faulty sensors.

Next time on the dyno try to log ignition angle, MAP, RPM and IAT in that way it's easier to diagnose. Power is amount of air/fuel mixture and ignition timing.

Also make sure you have airflow to the intercooler, not only in front of the car unless you have charge cooler.

See this thread http://www.vx220.org...hock/?p=1911748 i had the same issue remove fuse 22 and re run it on the dyno! There was a lot of confusion regarding this but it would be interesting to see if you get similar results Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thank you for all the responses I will try everything noted!
Hoping i just need to remove fuse 22 that would be a nice result!
ABS light was on the dyno but I assumed that was correct as I have seen this on previous cars on a dyno also!?

I use ADE tuning in Blackburn for dyno runs. It's a friends garage.

Check fuse for aux water pump.

Will do Thanks!
So I understand the logic behind this...Would this lead to a lack of cooling and the ECU holding the power back?

Also there is a sad lack of competent garages up here which is why I always travel to get work carried out on my car. My friend is an ex Lotus senior technician, now ford motorsport technician so generally he helps me with anything that is beyond my own experience but this is limited to the odd day at the weekend.

Yes its the pump that runs when the car is turned off so if the fuse has gone it wont boost. From what you describe its odds on it will be that or a boost solenoid. Also worth checking vac pipes. The Aux pump fuse is a pretty common one.

Tell me about it. I had to take Dan through the small claims courts, which i won. Then got a tip about this bloke in Preston who was a wizard in electronics. 22 months later he's still got the car locked up. Been to police, solicitors, courts and debt collector but still no joy.
