42s don't cut it on track.  I was surprised how well the CL8s worked from cold.  I'd have no problem using them on the road (apart from the expense  )

Go on then, how much for a set ?

UK distributor is Fortuna Moto in Redditch, 01527332194, 4060 and 4415 were 140 and 135 respectively, £339 with P+P and VAT.  I came to them via a deal through the race series, but I expect he will treat any enthusiast the same and may be amenable to a GB ;)

So, I bought some RS14s off Captain Vimes (super cheap, thanks Kev!) and tested them on track yesterday.

Stopping power was great and they didn't seem to fade... however I got a lot of rumbling and judder all day. It was particularly bad when light braking (e.g. when you get stuck behind a Caterham with no mirrors). Never lost the brakes or anything but it does knock your confidence. Is it normal?

FIr what ever technical reason there is I also found the same when moving to one pad to RS14 used fresh discs on with only RS14 pads and no issues since

RS14's ... when the discs got hot I had rummbly brakes - possibly from pad deposits. Brake coolers and grooves discs have helped but not solved this.

As above I always had issues with the RS14s and rumbling/judder but they always hauled the car up lap after lap.

I don't think it's primarily the pads alone It's more likely to be what pads you have used before on the same disc

I put fresh front discs on, but the rears have had RS42s (and 1144s in the past). Maybe worth a £50 punt and change rear discs...

I also wonder whether pads should be periodically bedded in after regular road use. They always perform amazingly well when first fitted and properly bedded in. Then normal road driving probably removes the pad compound from the discs as they wear and then will need bedding in again

This was exactly right thanks chill.

I stuck my old RS42s on the back and did a track day (so the front is RS14 with fresh discs, back 42 old discs), and I've got much less rumbling. So I'll be less of a pikey next time I think...

OK, so spoke to Matt Bentley and he recommended PF11s or RS14s.

RS14s are now £400 on Eliseparts  whereas Performance Friction are around £300. Anyone have any experience with these, or know an alternate (cheaper) supplier?

These  Lotus shops just take the p*ss on prices.

I bought some RC8 pads for my Porche front brake setup and they were just £300 (inc VAT). Not only are they cheaper, they are +80% larger surface area, so last a lot longer.

RC8 is pretty good, makes my car squirm a hell of a lot as I think the wishbones and bushes take too much strain (possibly also caused by the extra rubber).

I personally despite the silly price will ever move away from RS14 I've tried most pads and these are the best ( suited to me )

Tried the CL RC6 Endurance ones? Might give them a go next year.

Endurance pads are no good to me I need instant braking power, The RS14 have given night and day improvements for me with instant bite
