but I like the way it feels which I think it's more important. Once your in the general area in terms of spring rates then getting a good geometry and setup to suit not just the car but how you like the car to behave is far more beneficial.

sometimes the geo has as much to do with things as the springs/dampers too.

e.g. I had a fairly hard sprung/soft damping setup on mine and it would grip forever then "snap" and it was more or less unrecoverable, I then changed the reat toe links and had it all setup to something akin to halfway between the fabled 340R road and track settings.... same springs and dampers, it would let go far sooner than before, but it was recoverable, plus way less scary in the wet

iirc when Randy was explaining things, the springs dont "really" control the body roll persay, but the dampers do. Hence why some of the setups now have what looks to be fairly hard springs, sod all damping and then an apparently stiff ARB.

There is also some anecdotal stuff around regarding going very soft on the springs, soft on damping and higher on the ARB to prevent skittish behaviour but permit very very compliant ride, e.g. good on the road (and 't ring)

So what springs did you elect to buy in the end Robin?

I am still under consultation with Hoffmanns, although may well go for their "VX spec" nitrons.  I do FA road driving really.  (think last year covered about 150 miles) so everything more or less is on track, so not too bothered about the car's B road behavior.  I'm waiting for Hoffmanns to come back to me on their recommended options for this.  Will update once I have decided.

Thanks for all the input everyone.  Very useful :)

Properly expensive though? I went for Gaz monos on the basis that they are one of the cheapest track dampers however people have won races in the Elise Trophy on them. Sure, I may lose a tenth a second or 2 and may (or not) need rebuilding more often... but the extra money saving makes it worth it in my eyes...

No idea on the price.  I would imagine so!  I don't mind pampering the old girl a bit these days.  I'm getting a bit more serious about the quality of the kit I am putting on the VX and just fed up of all sorts of issues with Gaz.  If I can get 4 years of trouble free suspending from the Nitrons they are worth it in my opinion.  Looking at the 3-way adjustable though.  My eyes will probably be watering soon!

I was expecting "hammer time", what a relief.

Finally getting some quotes on this properly now.

I expect the 3-ways to be around the £4.5k mark with corner weighting, geo etc.  I'm going to then have some discussions around spring rates with them and tailor the set up to my use of the car (20% road, 80% track days with a view to hill climbs/sprints in the near future).
