It's a good point... how intense and difficult to extinguish would a Li-Ion fire be, I wonder? That said, I've not noticed the burned out shell of too many Priuses by the road.
As a child I was always sternly warned against getting batteries near a fire. Explosions would follow...possibly shrapnel and deadly fumes. You can imagine my disappointment when, as an 11 year old, I threw an Ever Ready D battery onto the bonfire on Nov 5th and all it did was make the flame a slightly different colour for a bit.

Diesel trucks aren't a massive problem (at least here in the UK) as most have been using AdBlue for years. Passenger cars are much more of a problem.

The sheer quantity of congestion and stop/start/stop/start nature of driving is fundamental to the polution problem, yet you never hear the government planners say something sensible like "we will attempt to reduce city congestion by reducing traffic lights, shopping centres in city centres, zebra crossings" etc. Instead o putting more speed bumps, more roundabouts etc they would improve things by opening out city centres IMO.
I live just 7 miles from my parents, yet last time I drove there it took 1h5m, and 1h15m for them recently.
Instead of building more fcuking shopping centres in city centres they should just pull them down and make roads + vitally required parking. Do that and then the electric car would not be so mandatory. Make Bristol look like Milton Keynes I say !!

I think most of the UK's traffic lights are in Derby... its a mess. Even in the small hours of the morning where there are no cars about, its stop start all the time

I used to have a big roundabout on the way to work, traffic lights were put up to ease congestion, it didnt it was worse, they then tried switching them on at peak times, apparently drivers then got confused as to when they were on or off (i know staggering) and there were more accidents, but rather than just switch them off saying it didnt work, they are now on all the time, i suppose the council had to justify the expenditure somehow!

Musk has said he is going to launch one of these (I think it' s this model)on his Falcon 9 Heavy test in January and send it towards Mars
