Hi I need to replace the side engine mounts (I think!) on my n/a VX220. Does anyone have any comments on the Vibro Technics version in road spec? Was going to go for standard ones but from what I can see/find they seem to have shot up in price and aren't that much cheaper now so if there aren't any down sides (I.e vibration etc) this may be the way to go. The car is just standard spec and road use only. Many thanks

i suggest also fitting a minimum of one front or rear powerflex engine mount insert, this will prelong the lfie of the side mounts.

Thanks for the link Batman. I hadn't tried Autovaux, they are much cheaper than ones I had found elsewhere so think I will give them a try. It's a second car so don't cover many miles but will look into the power flex insert as well. Thanks again

Or just fit the Vibra Technics and not bother

The downside is they add vibration though..

I suggest also not doing full bore standing starts, and they will never be an issue again :)

So do the Vibra Technics.. A wee bit over kill (and expensive) for a mainly road use car IMO. Worth it for heavier duty / track use though.

A pair of new standard side mounts and a single powerflex torque mount is a good compromise IMO (costs about £100 all in).

Vibra technics (IMO) seem like a complete waste of money in comparison to the tried and tested powerflex rear and/or front mount.

With one yellow powerflex mount in engine movement fore and aft is much reduced and makes the car feel so much better on the brakes and out of turns on road and track.

I would like to give the vibra technics a go but I cant see how they remedy the fore and aft movement (being the side mounts) as much a poly bushing the front or rear mount..

:yeahthat:  It's what I have and it has tightened up the gearshift, but I wouldn't do it for road only, too harsh..

I don't think its too bad tbh.. Noticeable when sitting idling, but nothing other than that. Plus I'm running a 2.4 bottom end with no balancer shafts..

£280 + P&P for a pair of engine mounts? Robbery. :glare:

As for stiffening your existing front and rear mounts, you can easily extract the current ones and then inject them with £10 of polyurethane thus stiffening them up yourself (even if they are mildly torn). Plenty of videos on YouTube to show you how, and it takes no more than an hour and is an easy job.

having seen the 'road spec' version I would not advise buying them, they might be fine with the vertical weight, but I doubt the horizontal load abilities are as good as OEM

Either buy the track version or keep the OEM type and fit just the lower front engine mount inserts

Given when they first came out, they claimed the side mounts differed between the excellent N/A and shitebag Turdo, I decided that VT could go on "the list" and to never be trusted ever again

I replaced mine (with OEM from AV) when I got the car as they were shot to bits, but the sorts who owned it prior were the "emergency start" type... They managed 28K miles.

I ran my set for a minimum of 58K without a hint of fail, and it was well used :D
