Tbh I'm surprised an N/A has enough power to trouble the mount regardless of how much stick they get. Don't they have 90bhp or something?

I suspect part of the reason they perish is due to the heat soak when the cars are parked up and maybe just old age. They are only some sort of rubber in the end.

On mine I discovered the rubber had sheared from the metal plate (cleanly), so really it was due to a poor manufacturing (i.e. the rubber wasn't bonded to the metal well enough).

Maybe its due to the weight of the hair products that are always in the boot?

Fumes from the gel seep through the clams (hence bubbling), and then attack the side mount rubbers.

Makes sense.

ETA - just for the OP, Zoobeef and Fiveoclock both have no compromise non road racecars so they don't care how much vibration is transmitted.

Thank all for the information and opinions! Im a bit of an old git now so not too many full on traffic light starts for me - my dentures would fall out if I did ! :-) Decided therefore to stick with OE side mounts (I have ordered a pair through Autovaux) and will look into a power flex insert for either the front or rear mount. Just for my info, which mount is easiest to get to to fit the power flex, front or rear? and is it easy to do? Thanks again everyone

The rear torque mount has easier access, however some (like me) install in the front mount as the rear mount is in close proximity to the exhaust down pipe, and they have been known to melt dependant on which exhaust you have (more of an issue on larger bore exhausts, predictably).

I paid to get vibratechnics fitted then happily got them taken off and originals put in. Gave them away to someone who races.

Cant say the difference was that obvious in any way other than large amounts of drivetrain vibration and the overall feeling that your car was just a lot cruder and rougher running now.

The minute originals went back on it was all good again.

Just a thought. Depending on what exhaust you have you might want to make up a heat shield to protect the rear insert as they can melt as some aftermarket exhaust come a bit closer

There is an OEM shield there but it sometimes gets removed.

I have never seen a vx without the CV joint heatshield fitted

The heatshields purpose is to protect the CV gaitor from the exhaust heat and it offers very little, or no, protection for the rear gearbox mount.
