This might be a long one....

I bought my vx and was told that the airbag light was on due to the aftermarket seats which were installed.....

was told pre tensioners not connected

I have been getting to know my car and I have discovered that my airbag is not even connected..   no idea why

I would obviously like to connect my airbag but I am concerned,    back in 2009   the car was cat D     supposed to be cosmetic damage

where are the sensors which would activate the air bag

I don't want to plug the air bag in until I know the sensors are ok  (not about to activate the bag)

any help / advice regarding this - much needed and appreciated

Dave

The airbag has it's own ECU somewhere. If it's been triggered it might possibly be reprogrammable, but I don't know anyone who's done it.

the vx220 does not have seat pretensioners, it has sensors built into the actual seatbelt assembly. You should see a yellow plug connected to the seatbelt reel (all the airbag system plugs are yellow).

So either the seatbelt is duff or it's disconnected.

The airbag ECU sits underneath the dash, behind the starter button. If it has been activated it's dead, fit a replacement.

Airbag ecu is under yhe dash top right in the center. If you are concerned about its state then contact Elizp987 through the site, she is sure to have one in good condition. You must disconnect the battery for 10 minutes before changing the ecu. Sent from my SM-G903F using Tapatalk

So, if the air bag ecu has triggered,   and I connect a new air bag - will it activate the air bag

or is the signal from a triggered ecu a one time thing

I assume a code reader wont turn off the air bag light either...

Is there any way other than crashing, to find out if the air bag ecu is working or not ?

A code read is a good idea and will tell you a definitive answer to your question. Sent from my SM-G903F using Tapatalk

once it's fired the airbag the Airbag ECU is dead, get a code reader and see what the codes are. There might be nothing wrong with the ECU

so if the ecu has fired and is dead - plugging in a new airbag, it wont deploy immediately

next question is, Op-com / Vaux-com        who and where - feel free to contact me via private message

I have brand new airbag modules (ECU)'s and secondhand ones too.

I also have seatbelts with pre-tensioners if needed :)

In order to trigger the airbag, you need to have one hell of a smash that frankly the airbag is least of your worries  :(

okey dokey, I am happier now - I recon I can just plug my airbag back in and I expect the airbag light to stay on

op com being the only way to switch it off

I have got my code reader, I will see what shows up

I don't currently have an EML illuminated, but there may be some stored codes.

So, here we go, no DTCs

MIL status = off

4 stored codes came up

P 0201 / 0203 / 0202 / 0204

Injector circuit / open cylinder   1  3  2  4

cleared the 4 codes

MIL status = off

This plug, looks to me  as though it has seen some heat

inside the back of my airbag    it is green plastic - on this particular airbag it looks OK  (ie not melted)

You need an opcom to read the airbag codes iirc

That's what I thought

Are we allowed to discuss opcom

I read somewhere that the software is freeware - is there a trusted source ?
