To bring this to date. Gearbox removed and engine run to temperature. Noise is in the engine.. Engine removed and inspected together with balance delete. Engine refitted and run to temp noise still present. Sent from my SM-G903F using Tapatalk

Next on the list is water pump. I cannot directly hear the noise, ie no bearing noise or grumble from any component is detectable. The only way I can hear the noise is to listen to the sound waves through the stethoscope pipe. I suspect that what's happening is that the water pump impeller is catching when warm and the noise I hear is actually a resonating one around the block. This is reinforced by a slight noise in the main aluminium pipe between the pump and thermostat housing. Sent from my SM-G903F using Tapatalk

Engine now swapped and my noise persists, any ideas gents ?

Got a standard manifold so think whats up next is to go back to NA and build up from there eliminating parts as i go.

I'd be tempted to build it back up and just drive it until something breaks!

He has run it without the belt on eliminating everything touching the belt.

Joking aside, sounds like a fooking tricky thing to hunt down.

SOLVED

Though of my making !!

during winter lay up I extended the rocker breather pipe out the back of the car , and put a small cap over the pipe to stop ingress of dirt.

Sadly over extended periods of idle a strong vacuum built up in the crankcase closed the cap, and as in the video above when the oil cap etc was removed the noise disappeared.

Now rerouting the breather and enjoying the car again - plus I have 2 good engines !!
