Ah someone else with taste who is not a Porsche fan.  Superb. I'd rather be consumed by an exotic and painful tropic disease than have an anodyne 911 (GT/RS not included but they are silly money to buy and track).

Try an Evora 400 - great cars. Some good deals on the last of the new Evora Sport 410's too....

Drove an Evora 400 the other night, felt great as an all round GT and track car. We both agreed the Exige felt quicker (and I prefer it) but the Evora is a far better all rounder and worth a look. Far better built than you would ever imagine a Lotus to be.

Aston?

I decided on the Jag rather than an Aston, not my cup of tea.

might take a run to a lotus dealer, on my way to the ultima factory..

I guess you are the same as me, after having a harrop vx, most other things on track will feel slow (unless budget is sky high) and to get something thats going to be noticeably slower just wont cut it.

I know its not trendy amongst "drivers" but whatever i have next must be sequential/semi auto etc, i just cannot be bothered with changing gear manually, except when on track and its justified.

.

Would i spend £40k on Exige that would match the performance of the departed Harrop VX, errr No,

I have spent a far bit of time looking and researching Ultimas, but sadly even though i would love one, i dont want a cramped cockpit (hardly any bigger than a vx/exige) and they are manual although there is an outfit working on a Porsche sequential box, but expect big monies, i will definitely have one some day, but now is just not the time.

Evoras are out of my budget for a decent one.

Also with you on the Porsche front.

I am afraid i have settled for probably the antichrist, a Nissan GTR, its the only thing that ticks all the boxes.

How about a Noble as another offering?

Running costs on a GTR are horrendous and get a lot worse if you track it hard.

I am with you on the auto box , personally I think two hands on the wheel is quicker round a lap. For the trip there and back , just put it in drive, set cruise , done.

I guess you are probably down to only a few real choices ? - Elise S3, Exige S3 or the Evora

Personally it would have to be the Exige S3

Hie requirement was 'GT car for use on track'.

Given this is a car mainly to be used on the road then surely you are much more on the Evora side than the Exige ?

GT4 ideal.

Compared to what? Also a fair bit has changed since that thread in 2010, tyres, brakes etc can all be had cheaper, i have done a lot of reading about the costs, a couple of mates have them so fully aware they are not cheap to run, but what car with 600hp and 600ft lb of torque will be?

Another something into the mix, TVR T350 or Sagaris or a new Mustang, was at Combe the other day and one was out and not hanging around?

Better get out and have a drive of some of the cars mentioned, I did look at the AMG GTR when looking at the Jag, nice looking car.

Had been thinking R8 but I remember why MAXR said about it being a bit soulless to drive.

PS am retired now so need to watch the pennies

I've been looking for a GT car recently, budget up to 50k

I thought i'd have an Evora after seeing foxy's one in the flesh, but my bad back made it painful to get in and out of.

I tried an Exige and I couldn't get out at all, had to be helped.

Bmw M4 and M2 came close, but I like rare cars.

Very tempted by a Bentley Continental, if fact I think that's what I'll have next.

I love Porsches but been there already, can't afford a GT4 but would have one if I could.

I went to a Pistonheads meet recently, great mix of cars, and some of the V8's caught my eye.

So I went to a dealership to look at a newish Mustang, the interior didn't do it for me.

They happened to have a Lexus RC-F in the showroom.

I fell in love and bought it, a rare motor that people have to ask what it is.

They are quite surprised when you say 5.0 V8 with just under 500 horses.

Now it's no track car, and it's lazy at low revs, but it's a lovely luxury thing with a decent turn of speed at higher revs.

And I can get in and out of it lol.

So Nick, don't think it'll fit your bill but thought I'd share as my search was similar to yours.

If I could have upped my budget it'd def be a Cayman GT4.

Happy hunting.
