Given this is in the tuning and modification section can I ask how much power increase an erratic battery light gives? :D

I know, I'm an arse. I'll get me coat. Lol

Sorry, it is possibly the wrong area but as were going from a 120 to a 100 amp alternator, must be classed as a modification now isn't it  lol

This is step 1 in the sc conversion, so it is in the correct place.

I had intermittent battery light on my car, the very occasional flicker to start with, becoming more and more regular. Now it’s on permanently but with no ill effects. The alternator outputs 14.4V as it should and battery voltage has remained fine throughout. So I’ve just left it and fitted a scan gauge.

Glad the world balance is back in order.

Now I have just have to get under that bloody car for a few hours of scraping, bruising and swearing.

Is the inlet manifold off and work from the top not easier?

Done, one new alternator fitted. Got it out via the side, and undone from underneath.

The tensioner was also crudded up and not very flexi but luckily had one here so fitted that as well.

Car has now driven off and all good.

Thanks for all your wisdom, helpful posts from the past and some special socket heads from Jez at back on track.

For future reference to NA owners.

To change the alternator -

Jack up

Remove drivers side rear wheel and wheel arch liner

Remove the mid under tray

Disconnect the battery

Remove the belt (push up the tensioner using the head of a small ratchet)

Using a 14mm E drive socket and ideally a flexi socket (90 degree bend one), undo the 4 bolts of the alternator (now you need two people ideally).

One person lowers it while the other undoes the plug in connection and undoes the 13mm nut holding the main electrical connection.

Undo one bolt holding the black plastic box thing under the wheel arch (excuse my ignorance but seems to be something to do with fuel tank breathing) and

push it out of the way a bit.

Push the alternator from underneath and the other person pull it through then wheel arch side. It slides through easily (ours was the bigger 120 amp alternator).

Reverse the process.
