Hi

After racing with my mx-5 for a few years in a Swedish class called roadsport where the cars are "road legal" and can be raced in a semi-standardized racing class I stumbled across a Toyota MR2 MK1 and loved how a midship handled. I updated the car with nice BC coil overs and gave it a good geo and it was great but started looking more and more at a Lotus S1 or S2.

So I bought an Opel Speedster project instead :D

This will also work nicely in roadsport but in a different power to weight ratio class than the mx5.

The car has lots of mods but the car needs sorting out and a bit of help with some of the mods I don't quite understand.

Its running a standard engine with dbilias dynamic intake and 100cel race cat with a tuning chip. But it's the lysholm compressor I want to get running after I've sorted out the chassi  :D

It has 330mm AP brakes at the front with two brake proportioning valves in series on the front brakes and oem rear brakes. This I can't get my head around because what's the point of large front brakes if you are just going to make them worse trying to balance them to the rear. So i'm looking for larger rear brakes, any tips?

Racing is first priority but will keep it road legal.

Possibly the other way round so you can remove braking force from the rear when it is wet? I imagine it would need a quite aggressive rear pad compound to need this though.

First option is off course to fit the Standard 44mm AP front calipers to the rear. Send you a PM

I have a lysholm and a built engine with forged internals, compcams supercharger camshafts, charge cooler and a few other bits. It's just not in the car yet. I might install it this winter but really want to get the car sorted first. And it's fun with some laptimes to compare N/A vs Supercharger.

I'm also running nitro racing coilovers, Quaife differential, 215mm R888 front and 235 R888R on the rear.

I was looking att installing the front calipers on the rear but haven't made my mind up yet due to not having a handbrake as the car will still be roadlegal.

So either change calipers for the mot, or double calipers wich adds weight or find a large caliper with handbrake that works. I think this would balance the brakes nicely.

I would like to start with

- Fixing the play in the steering wheel. Didn't figure this out untill a was on track, was scary in highspeed bends.

- Remove the brake brake proportioning valves, i'll keep one and install it on the rear.

- Install the abs unit so I have the choise of abs and e sppedo that works.

- Trackday on sunday  :)

- I have started with my seating position by rasing the steering wheel 4 cm by insering a spacer under the steering colum.

The seats have no support at all and are leather, I have a sparco sprint from my mx5 I might try and install.

And get it upp to racing spec.

5-6 point seatbelt

bucket seat (but can get away with using the oem seat)

Emergeny shut off inside and out

big tow hook front and rear

Need to find a host so I can post some pictures.

Has anyone tried the double rear caliper? Do you connect the brake fluid at all to the handbrake or just rely on the mechanic part in it?

No need for fluid if you are just using the standard rear caliper for the handbrake. You can get the spot calipers to carry out the handbrake function and then you don't have to lug the extra weight of the standard rear. Wilwood make one.

On the German forum they had some spot handbrake calipers designed for our rear axle, but not sure if these are still made.

In roadsport it is enough with a hoop, all other racing requires a full cage.

Bit small??

Think the standard VX rear brakes are 36mm. (The front AP 2-pots are 44mm)

You are right. OEM is 36mm.
But do you want a bigger or smaller piston and why?

The OP needs more brake bias to the rear, so more surface than the standard 36mm calipers...
