Hi all - on saturday I have to drive from Edinburgh to Bristol in approx 8-10 hours. I could do it easily by motorway, but that would not allow the chance of fully enjoying the car I will be in (a 911). Does anybody have any suggestions for a great route which wont add too much time please? any help very gratefully received! An overnight stay somewhere is sadly not an option

For anyone planning a similiar trip I think I've sorted it. Motorway down south then into Wales and take the A448 then A40 down to south wales, across the bridge to Bristol. Luckily the issue of Evo I was reading mentioned a great road between Clun and Knighton - result!

Main roads avoiding motorways from Edinburgh to Moffat were great about 20 years ago in Alpina B10.

Yeah! I am slightly wary as one of the 2 I will be driving is an air cooled one, so slow in, fast out! the other is a 991 so I get to drive old and newish. Would not swap either for my VXT...…..unless it was based on money of course!

Some great roads in the Scottish borders. Don't miss out:

https://www.pistonhe...eam-drive/30293

"From the spa town of Moffat, the A708 spears diagonally across border country to Selkirk. For anyone heading to Edinburgh from the west of England, it forms part of a wonderfully rewarding and scenic alternative to the M74/M8, or taken on its own merits, it's a classic drive that dilutes the magic of the Highlands into a truly iconic stretch of road. Options to turn it into a loop are many and varied and, at 35 miles, there's more than enough room to stretch your legs."

The road from Edinburgh through to Galashiels is decent if not too busy, so I'd take that and join the rest as above.
