Hi All, 

 

I have been having some issues recently with my NA. When out in the car, it will have an occasional misfire/stutter around the 2.5 - 3k mark which goes away as you accelerate, The car also used to have a lumpy idle and cut out and has recently been fully serviced which found the Air Filter to be rather dirty. I have had the Coil Pack replaced with a good condition used one and after the filter was cleaned, it no longer hunts/ cuts out.  

 

However, I was out today in it and it felt extremely sluggish up to around 60 mph and then when restarting the car and driving it home, it perked up and was back to normal? 

 

I don't quite understand what is happening! Is there anything else i can check?

Intermittent faults can be very frustrating and time consuming, I'm sure someone will be along soon with a most likely cause but I'd check the 'loom of doom' (connections under the coolant tank) by cleaning and spraying with electrical contact cleaner.
If you're confident your ignition system is all in good shape the earth dtrap to the engine should be checked as well.
Try removing fuse 8 for a minute to clear faults if you haven't got access to a scan tool, assume this has already been done?
Next thing would be to make sure your fuel supply is working properly.

has the fuel filter been changed recently ?

 

might also be a duff injector or wiring to the injectors

Seems you've delt with the blocked intake... any blockage exhaust side?

Yep could be a loose cat brick, although that would get worse with higher rpm I'd have thought

You still running an egr?

It could be worth giving the Loom of Doom a good clean, to make sure the connections are OK. You sometimes get weird engine response, not always a simple loss of power.

Hi all thanks for the replies! I'm still running the EGR. When it was running rich it was giving a lot of black smoke from the exhaust, could it be thats caused a blockage?

Fuel filter hasn't been changed actually! And still needs to check the injectors. It's not throwing any faults up either!

I have a similar issue with mine. Feels like a flat spot / misfire around 3k revs. Doesnt affect the rest of the performance and is only every once in a while but very frustrating!

I believe the OEM ecu has a hot and cold map for up to 2750 rpm.  It then changes to a combined map for over 2750.  I found this when I had a CMS sc map as there was a terrible flat spot when cold at 2750.  Once warm it was great. 

 

Do you think this could be affecting you?  Is it present cold and hot?

For me it's present when hot and cold. Its also less often when using premium fuel (i tend to use premium all the time unless unavailable!) so it makes me think it could be fuel related

Are you on a non-oem map?

This describes the behaviour of my car and it correlates with the dip in the torque curve you can see on the Z22SE literature.

I am in the processs of mapping it out, but it's slow going.
