Is it necessary to modify LSJ crank while fitting ATI harmonic balancer?

He has lengthen the key groove to put a longer key.
He says the pulley is only engaged on the key by .25 inch . 2 inches agter modification.
This modification is not needed.
However, check which ATI balancer you install ( oem or underdrive) i think one of them need the machining of the oil pump cover.
