That's a lotus roof and rollbar cover never seen one on a vx before. Interested to know why? Something to do with the cage fitment?

Yes well spotted!

I ways thought the Elise long tail would look good on the VX so I gave it a go and I'm really pleased with the results. The two tops are only superficially similar though.

I started off with an Elise long tail skin, after much cutting and stretching this formed a rough buck which finally nicely fitted the VX. From this I took a mold which composed more or less the finished shape, I had a good idea of the profile I wanted and this needed further work to finalise the contours. The rear shape around the clam buttress is completely different to an Elise and this needed the most work. I also re-profiled the roof to continue the roof line curve up from the windscreen which creates slightly more of a dome top. Roof height is raised 15mm as can be seen in the photo. Using oversize profile gauges the final shape is now finished mm accurate in symmetry side to side.

The roof could ideally do with a final repaint and interior trim as it was was finished temporarily for the trial fit.

It now has proper seals and retainers and is 100% leakproof. One of the previous photos shows the makeshift seal all but fallen off.

The cage actually derived from the roof. Originally I was going to mount the new roof on an alloy frame to incorporate and stabilise the floppy screen support. I then decide I might as well make a complete roll cage instead.

The screen surround is now fixed and bonded to the cage.

I really like this. Very Zagato.... Maybe you should start making replica roofs that could be fitted without the cage modifications :poke:

It would be easy enough to include normal type fixings.
As it is the roof attaches to the rear roll hoop and front hood anchors besides at points on the new cage and is a tight fit on the upper screen frame.
The seal retainer is a gently curved z section alloy strip attached to the standard front hood anchors and the rear of the cage. Without fixing to my cage it may just need supplemental fixing in the centre of the screen surround.
How do the aftermarket hard tops normally fix, I’ve not had a close look at one.

Do you know if he is still driving a VX220 or similar? Manilva is indeed very close to me.
