I might an old one hidden away in my garage.

The heat build up with it fitted is noticeable so I removed it.

How long you had the vx? As I guess its lived this long without problems like many others.

Used to be a weighted engine boot mat thingy for sale on ebay, kinda good option if left outside or keep it in the garage/covered.

Hi, had my vx for only a couple of months. Been having problems with the immobiliser, think the error code was P1613 from memory so thought it might be corrosion in the Ecu connectors due to water.

Mine is an NA, bog standard. Is yours standard too, or modified?

I'm thinking of replacing the rad as it's the original and I've heard that they're not so good.

Cheers Martin

Some Bling showing my engine cover, its been on for 6 years, it does keep the engine surround "dryer", it does not cause any excessive heat increase, perhaps 1-2 degrees at most even in hot climates such as Greece.

They can be found in most scrapyards for a £5, seek and you will find.

As for a radiator upgrade, not necessary unless you are putting on more power imo. Many have lasted for over 20 years now

Thanks for your pics and info. I'm going to fit one to mine. I can't believe that Lotus/Vauxhall allowed the engine to be exposed to the elements like this.

Of course they were designed to survive the rain, I think it would have been well documented otherwise of hundreds of Elises and Vauxhalls littering the roadsides of the UK each time it rains   The turbos have a little metal cover on the inside of the mesh which covers the sparks, basically the water issue you *might* get is water in the sparks coils etc. by all accounts. You would be better served replicating that than completely sealing the heat dissipation, personally I have seen more issues with engines getting hot than getting wet.

You have heard correctly. They can fail at any time, without warning. I was in the 'well it's lasted this long' clan until last year, half way down the A14 on route to Sliverstone, unannounced 90 Â°C antifreeze shower..    :ffs:

I assume its the original, looks OEM, unless a previous owner swapped it out for an OEM one - but would have thought a nice aftermarket would be a better choice. My car has 68k miles on it, so not doing that much, I only did 2500 miles in it last year.

Haha you got me wondering now, I might have to trawl through the receipts (I have millions of them with the car) to see, it must have been replaced with an OEM one then, possibly?

It's the plastic end caps that let go catastrophically. Not sure there's any way to tell when/if it will happen.
