You say very cheap to replace. Only ones I’ve seen are like £400 each😳. So unless I’m being a tight arse ,that’s not cheap

I believe you can buy OEM toe ends for £25 a piece so a hundred quid all in. Thats the cheap option.

Then you move to around £320 I think it is for Elise Parts and £420 for Spitfire which yes are not cheap by any means (when you consider they just do the job the OEM product should be doing anyway!).

Ah that sounds more reasonable. Do Vauxhall’s still stock oem ones ? And are they easy to swap over and set up ?

Yes they're easy to swap over. But that depends on your experience. I can do a lot to cars since owning this car, not surely if that's a good thing or not but certainly saves me money on my daily. As mine has the Elise parts upgrade I just change the bolt every so often which is like £2 but I doubt you even need to do that once upgraded. I just do it to be extra safe.

The biggest risk ones are the oem's, now rusted to f*ck and ignored, or replaced but not bolted to spec, resulting in play.

I am nearing 200.000km in mine, and it had 2 sets. oem untill 130.000, and an elishop set untill now.

I would say i did about 50 trackdays. I am not a curbstone lover though.

I might just swallow the cost of the EP kit and do it myself (well I say myself, I will once allowed go to my parents and get dad to do it!) - I did ask BOT to do it for me and the bill was £630+ which was a bit eyewatering!

Ouch, if you're going to buy the elise parts kit I would just pay a bit extra for the spitfire kit from Type 116 Motorsport at £395, fit and forget apparently. I've just checked mine and the outer nearside uniball has a bit of play so I will replace it during my rebuild. £50 for a new uniball from Elise parts. The Elise parts kit was fitted to mine in 2012. Back on track charged 1.8 hours for fitting with another hour for geo. This was when a previous owner had the car. I'm sure type116 could fit it too, in Yorkshire.

Yeah it's £70 difference, still a hard cost to swallow to make the car drive as it does now.

But people have had failures with the EP kit and I've not heard of failures with the spitfire kit. It's £70 well spent considering it's safety. If I was buying one I'd get the spitfire, I'm sticking with elise parts simply because it's £50 for a new bearing or £395 for the kit plus a pain trying to fit a new bracket. Also, I don't run sticky tyres or a hard geo so I'm hopeful it will be fine if I replace the bolts yearly.

Just to confirm, then, the EP kit also needs drilling and a bracket fitted? And yes I don't track or have sticky tyres just normal road tyres.

Yes, although I didn't install it. Chris Redman from type 116 knows more.

these rose joint setups are not fit and forget , but need checking before a trackday that the hub carrier to outer joint is torqued.

What about the inner joint, do they ever have problems?

I don't think the spitfire kits have ever been documented to have a problem?

This is why I've just bought one. This is a life threatening thing so it's worth the time and money to change it.

I agree it is steep for the car driving as it does now but like you, I'd always pay more for much enhanced safety and reliability. The old adage of buy cheap buy twice etc....

I appreciate this is an old thread  but I thought I should add. I looked at this car before I got the one I have now as it is just down the road from me. Looks  to be a very nice car when you first look at it but when you look underneath it is a different story as there is considerable damage to the passenger size sill, and damage to the driver side sill and frame.  Since I looked at it it might have been repaired but it made me walk away. Got a Turbo in the end. Just thought I would add this.
