Hi,

The noise whine from my supercharger is good, but really loud. At Blyton I trip the meter at 93db, so am loath to go to other tracks such as Bedford, only to be kicked off because of the whine. Exhaust noise is no worries, passing ok at Cadwell static check.

How can I reduce this whine (other than taking my right foot off the pedal), still keeping the power delivery?

Would a different air filter help (I use a pipercross cone filter)?

Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

Not really qualified to answer this (being a turbo guy) but I met a couple of lads at the weekend with supercharged cars and they said that the air filter makes a big difference.

Yes, open cone is the worse, regardless of type.

You need an enclosed box.

Most silent is oem filterbox.

Concerning this problem:

How to modify and build-in the OEM filterbox?

I have just converted to SC and there are problems to accommodate the original box. Because of the tight space it also seems difficult (for me) to change the filter insert when box is installed.

Or do you know another car's OEM box (condition: 70 - 76 mm inlet-diameter) which can be built-in also? I don't know exactly but I think I remember I've read somewhere that a Porsche one could fit.

Any hint will be useful.

Thanks.

I run a drilled Saab box on mine. Cole’s with 300bhp fine and recurs whine massively. Johnyboyhgt did the mod and can advise

I've got a Stab122xl on mine and it's much quieter than the open cone from before. Not got an issue with noise any more. In fact last time I tested it was 89db apparently although that was Castle Combe so wind was probably blowing in my favour.

I wonder if an inlet resonator box would cut this noise out?

OEM airbox on mine two. Adaptor bracket to shuffle it across about two inches outboard. Quiet as a mouse. Pain to change the filter, but always was anyway.
