For info, I've tried a Dutch yellow relay in my 2005 turbo today and it worked fine

There's a thread on here somewhere, try a Google search, I'll have a quick go

If you want to buy a Big Yellow (Dutch fabricated plug & play version) just P.M. me. At the moment we have 1 in stock. Having parts ready to make a new batch of 10 relays.

Interesting to know: we have more then 40 Big Yellow relays sold across Europe and never had any complaints. The one and only “problem” occurred is with one VX220 forum member.

That's why I created this post after testing the relay...

Just to clarify, and don't think it makes a difference but not 100% sure, I tested the relay in a turbo, the chap having the starting issues has an NA.

Hi all, just to chime in, i am the guy with the "problem" that Gonzales mentioned. I currently believe that my car is the issue, not Gonzales relay.

I have seen a video of the relay being demonstrated fine by the maker, and the relay Ivor has tested is the very same one that does not work in my car. I have an idea what may be wrong, will update if i can confirm.

For additional info, original relays do work in my car, NA.

Hi All,

@Tim, thanks for mentioning.

The Big Yellow, is mentioned on my site now, you can see some of the production stages.

Soon we will make another 10 ready for sale and will also start a new production of the Big Yellow electronics in a few weeks.

Hi All,

TLDR: The BY relay works fine.

I managed to get out and test the relay on Sunday.

My car has a non-standard starter switch which illuminates, like the switches that can be seen here: http://www.vx220.org...ches-mod/page-2
Power to the switch and the light are joined, and comes from the yellow relay. When the key is turned, power is supplied to the switch and the light will instantly start drawing power through the relay.

My father has suggested that the original relays use a magnetic coil core, while the replacement relay uses a semi conductor. A magnetic core relay would require a fair amount of power to engage - allowing the light to draw power without engaging the starter motor. The power the light draws seems to be enough to engage the semi conductor. This would explain why the original relays work as expected, while the replacement activates as soon as i turn the key, due to the current drawn through the light.

I removed the ground to the light (disabling the light), and the relay is now working without any issues. Turning the key does not engage the starter motor, pressing the button does.

I now need to redo the circuitry for the light so it draws power from another source (and preferably dims while driving, as its blinding at night).

I did read that but the one Techieboy used the OEM numbers on the end cap face were different to the GM ones and the ebay ones are the same numbers as the genuine GM/lOTUS ones. 661.10 - A727 12V - 51752580 and for £7 each its worth a go.

Do not try the Fiat central locking relay, it is a lot cheaper then the BY but you have exactly nothing   And what Smiley says it kills your car.

The Original ebay add discussed in 2016 still works, and points to the exact same add that is still live today, and is what you are pointing at Bob.

How do you conclude they are different?

which has the same ID numbers as the GM/Lotus ones.

I don't have an example of the lotus one top facing.

I take it you, as you can compare. Could you show us a picture?

Hi Tom,

Both BY have an almost Identical physical 40A relay. The original and the replacement BY do both have a semiconductor input but a different cpu. For the cpu to handle the signal of the starting button correctly this input has a pull-up resistor to 13.8V (battery). This input is a Normally Open pin.
The dashboard button does nothing more than pulling this pin to GND to start the engine and that is exactly what the LED did of your aftermarket starterbutton (enough low to trigger the starter relay).

Today we (Richard and I) build a new batch of 10 Big Yellow relays, thoroughly tested and ready for sale.

So we have stock again!
