Just wondering if anyone knows if you buy a private reg from a vehicle that has been written off etc and you put it on your car would your car throw up a marker as not being hpi clear? Rang the dvla but they said they don't control it ffs!

It would throw a marker up that a vehicle that reg has been on has been written off, yes. The report makes it clear what vehicle that was though.

It depends if want an HPI to come up with no alerts at all, but I wouldn't worry if I saw that alert on a report. Only if it applied to the car I was looking at!

Is there a way to find out before you buy it? Seems as if you can't hpi a plate that isn't attached to a vehicle...

Are you concerned about the marker being thrown up should you wish to sell the car in the future?

If so wouldn’t changing the reg back to the current/original one before trying to sell be a solution?

Also you will have the date of change of reg etc to show to potential buyers

If you put a plate from a written off car on your car, even if you subsequently take it off the car, the HPI for the car will always show the plate was on it, and that that plate was on a car when it was written off. But, it will also show that plate was not on your car (I.e. the car that's being HPI'd) when it was written off. So I really wouldn't worry about it..
