Hello,

More people running Redline oils??

Maybe taking the plunge also.....

I'm using Fuchs 75W80 (GL5, bit weird because the F23 is a GL4 tranny) in a high powered turbo. My tranny oil dies after 2000km 's. It REALLY does!

The Fuchs gearchanges are great and i do not want to lose it.

So.....

Which one to choose????

MTL 75W80 ( has the GM synchromesh spec in it)

MT 85 (oem gearbox fluid is a 75W85 also)

MT90 (maybe better for extreme wear and tear, higher temp. resited)

Best thing is offcourse the Redline is a GL4 spec.

I do NOT track the car, but when giving it the beans   temperature of the oils rise fast!

All oils are Fuchs in the car.

grtz

ps: 2 litres of Fuchs 75w90 LS (GL4/GL5) spec are also on it's way to test..... Are there members running this gear oil????

pps : NO oem GM oil! removed it after 1500km. Burned smell!

So... If the Fuchs is great, but off after 2000km's, you better fit a gearbox cooler of some kind. ;-)

I had the Fuchs oil in my gearbox but changed it to Rowe gearbox oil. (Because of other problems - were not caused by the oil) Do you measure your gearbox oiltemp? I never see more than 80-85 degree.

That would be the case if other oils do not work  :yeahthat:

For only  street usage thougth a gearbox cooler would not be needed...... Summer time i drive with a half undertray (Europa style)

I'm looking for a 'cheap fast fix' solution first....

Hello,   No , i do'nt measure my gearbox temperature (but would really like to know it!). Notice my engine oil rises with 10 degrees . So box temperature would rise also... I do notice a different gear change when riding hard/getting hotter  with the Fuchs.   Maybe a 90w is a bit better for higher temp /heavy load in my gearbox. Fuchs is 75W80 i'm using now...   That's why i'm going to test the Fuchs 75W90 limited slip (have a lsd fitted) . This one is also a GL4/GL5 classified. The 80w is a GL5 one.   But reading a lot of positive reviews (some negative also) about the Redline oil i would like to try it....   Ultimate, you're using this one? https://www.motor-oe...haltgetriebeoel

I have MTL in mine and Will switch back to OEM. I don't like the feel when shifting to fifth Gear ... It seems that it does not synchronize Well and quick enough.i m faster to shift to 5 when double shifting with neutral between change.

Yes, mt85 should be the correct one.... I used MTL just because I had 2 bottles available (planned to be used elsewhere before).... And thought that it could be OK despite the little viscosity difference.

I'm going to order the MT85. Did put the FUCHS 75W95 LS GL4/5 in  today. Stiffer gearchanges. Could not choose 2nd gear sometimes..

80W VS 90 W = big difference in thickness of fluid. The 80 w is like water compared to the other one....

My 2 options i'm going to take are : CAstrol Syntrans 75W85 GL4 , but first the MT85.

Like the manual says: 75W85 GL4 and NOTHING else! Hopefully it 's the best of 2 worlds. Good cold gearchange and good temperature/load protection....(like it should be)

My experience is the MT85 has a bit stiffer gearchanges when cold compared to the Castrol 75W85. Both are tested in the same °C

They both have the same spec: 75W85 GL4.

I'm switching back to the Castrol .

For now my choices are:

standard speedster/vx = Fuchs 75w80 GL5 (weird but it's a really good transmision oil BUT does not last long in a highly tuned vx/speedster)

Tuned vx/speedster: Castrol Syntrans 75w85 GL4

I've waisted a lot euro's testing different gear oils....

-Castroll 75W90 gl4 Syntrans: to thick but shifts ok

-Fuchs : 75w80 gl5 : very good for a standard car smoothest gearchanges i had!

-oem GM oil: smelled burned after 1500 km

-Fuchs  75w90 LS GL4/5 : no gearchanges possible!!!!!!!

-Castrol 75W85 gl4 Syntrans: Does the job for me

-Redline mt85 : to thick but shifts ok , very expensive oil!!

I'm done testing (remember i Always flush my tranny and refill )  :D
