Raising an old thread here, but it's MOT time and I'm wanting to take it to a local garage that I can trust as opposed to main dealer who will probably tell me the car needs all and sundry. The two garages I have spoken to have four-post ramps, and from what I understand, usual MOT procedure would be using those sliding scissor jack things to raise the whole front end to check steering out. Then drop the front end and raise the back end to check whatever they do there. Question is, well erm, has anyone watched their car being MOT'd with that sort of equipment? I did try a search, the Hoff would've been disappointed with me if I hadn't :D

Well, you can't get to the back jack points with the undertray on - they lie underneath.... :(

The process you describe should be fine thumbsup As long as they use the centre raising points and balance the car.

I'm confused now :o

Jack it up at the trolley jack points? And balance it how?

You've got a couple of choices, all depends on whther you have a 4 post or 2 post lift. As you're talking about a 4 post then these have a slide between the wheels use this to the centre jacking points anf the whole raises off the floor. The back will likely drop down so a couple of bits of wood at the back of the chassis rail or under the rear suspension mounts should be used to stop it dropping too far (although the cars weight is actually supported by the centre jacking points.
