Aye, the screws are self tappers. If you are going the without revoving the clamshell option then you might find it easier to pare the plastic away with a stanley knife rather than try to crush it.

I think I'll add a bit of levity to this serious thread. Calypso - wifey wants you to take her shopping ; therefore select the method that a) will take the longest to do b ) may put the car out of action until shops shut c) may need repeating whenever she says shops

Hi niebough still can't spell. Lots of interest in V. Good topic. Seems to me body colour for V is best option. IN distance silver one looks like a goofy tooth...not good. Will walk round crouch end to see your car when it is done and admire Yours \mark :drink:

Calypso,

We are local to each other aren't we.

Want to try to bodge are cars together?

I like rasputins idea, might get the BIG soldering Iron I have here at work out!

vex, I'm North West Manchester way but a nice thought though. I did like the idea of 'lets melt our cars together day'

I'm actually doing mine tomorrow whilst the wife is out. She thinks I'm mad and will damage the car. Hope not. :(

My car is also going to the garage next week and will be out of commission for 5 days. Its havig the paint around the lights fixed (there all coming out and check/repaired) and I want to remove the 'V' before it goes in. Just on the off chance I do do any damage they can fix it at the same time. Nows there confidence for ya. Not. :beat:

I'm also geting the other bits sorted like door rattle, leaking roof (yes on a Turbo), knocking on the passenger side and oil change. Only done 600 miles to date but its time to change it.

Hope my baby comes back a new car. Well rattle and leak free if its possible !!!

cheers for all the advise. Will post a picy of my conquest tomorrow.

cheers

Its off. 1 hour 10 minutes and job done. Use a soldering iron, stanley knife, plyers and care. Kept scoring and holing and using the plyers to break the platic away gradually. Still have the screws to retrieve and will do so another day. Doesn't look the easiest thing to do to get them out. They look like they are in a recess right along the front edge and becausethey still have some plastic attached to them still and the washers I have no way to get them back through the grill. Had my time over again i'f remove the clam. Mainly because cutting from the from does cuase some very minor damage to the plastic on the grill where the screws are if you wiggle it too much. The metal was just showing through on one screw but a bit of black touch-up paint covered it over an its invisible now. But I guess long term because the plastic is broken it may start to rust. Anyway glad I did it and I'll post a pic later. It does look a bit gawky and bare so I am now on the lookout for something to fill the gap. I am sure something will be developed that looks better than the V. Thanks for all the advise.

to remove the floating screws, undo the front 8mm bolts.....then you can pry it open a bit and slide a tool/fingers so to get the screws to fall out. worked for me! ...you'll get used to the big opening....its a matter of habit.... place the front plate a bit higher and it will fill it nicely.

Picture of progress as I took the V off. See how I used the soldering iron to break most of the V away. I then used a small hack saw blade and plyers to remowe the remaing plastic and push the screw through.

Never thought of that

cheers Ricky. Got the screws out dead easy. Remove dthe bolts and gently tapped the tray till they fell out. I also parked it on a slope to aid their decent.

By the way, some kids went past on their bikes and noticed instantly the V was gone. One kid said to the other 'He's taken off the Vauxhall badge' Other said 'Yea it looks dead smart now !!'

I almost clipped him around the ear and said 'what do you mean now'

Anyway, tahts the end ogf that thread for me. Thanks to everyone for help and advise and general support.

Well done Calypso. I am at this Christian Go Kart camp for almost two week as of Saturday. I am incharge of keeping the Karts going and the afternoons are free if they need no work. So, there I am, on a holiday with a fully set of tools, and afternoons with little to do. Guess I am taking the front clam off, tidying everything up, trying to cure rattles and REMOVING THAT BL**DY V. Looking forward to it even more now. Off to find the removal guide that someone posted a couple of months ago. Chris
