This may or may not be a good idea, a list of parts that fit both the Elise and the VX. As we know the cars are similar but different and only share so many parts.

The price difference is massive between Vaux and Lotus parts and getting a supplier to tell you if it will fit is near impossible.

Anyway I have now fitted a few Elise bits on my car, cheap third party Elise parts are available on Elise parts.com and genuine Lotus parts from Stratton motor company.com



Track rod ends

Vauxhall £42 + vat
Lotus Elise S2 £22 + vat


Handbrake cable

Vauxhall £82 + vat
Lotus Elise S2 £18 + vat


Anyone know any other shared parts?

I think the soft top roof is also the same with a big saving - not sure of the figures

I bought a spare roof cable recently from lotus for about £24 (only one cable mind). However, I was down at VXL just a few days ago and mentioned to the parts guy that it was unconscionable that VXL should tell people they need new soft tops when the cables go, given that you can ger spare cables from lotus.

He said that you could a replacement cable from VXL (for about £2 more per cable) and even gave me the part no.). I have it at home somewhere and can post it if useful for those that have a VXL dealer nearby, but a longer trip to their nearest lotus dealer, unless some of the guys with VXL connections have quicker access to the part no.

What about the roof strut thingies? Are they the same as the S2s?

My front cable was replaced under warranty, funny how they didnt want to replace the lot when they're paying!

I was having a look at a Liz 111R this morning and the roof had identical struts as far as I could tell the whole roof looked the same. Earlier S2s I have come across had a bit if material that joined the two struts together, but later cars don't seem to.

THe "short roof" S2s are identical to our beloved cars in terms of struts and actual roof-y bit. IIRC someone on here managed to get one of the insulated roofs (fitted to the 111R touring) from Lotus mmmm fleecy .....I think its only the very early built S2s that come with the long roof.

Which track rod ends do you need? Can you confirm they are the S2 ones? eliseparts have S1 and S2 ones?!?!

Also are they the same all round? (this might be a dumb qu!!)

Radiator is the same as a Elise S2 Front Crash Box is the same as an Elise S2 Windscreen/ surround same as Elise S2 Wing mirrors are the same as a Mini Metro (with a little bit of modding) I think the windscreen wiper motor is from Citroen....?

Elise S2 Track rod ends definately fit, changed them last week. They are official Lotus parts, not aftermarket for the S2, I got them from stratton motor company.com because this is where Eliseparts.com get their official Lotus bits. Aprox £24 ea incl. vat and next day delivery.

Ball joints on Elise S1 S2 and VX are all the same.

When I bought my VX the dealer advised me to buy the S2 cables if one should break.

So am i right in assuming the VX is like the S2 no the S1?? I thought the S2 was released after the VX??? Help I think I am on a tangent!
