unless i'm utterly wrong the s2 elise and vx are basically the result of the collaboration between vxl and lotus on a lightweight sports car that has a bit more build quality and is easier to get into than a series one lizzie. most noticably a vx has a much less obtrusive sill than a series 1 lizzie and shares the s2's chassis not the s1s (unless there are a load of early vxs out there with huge sills i haven't seen. therefore yes, the vx is like the series 2 lizzie, not the series one. edit: out-typed by cupid again (but i think my answer is better  ;) )

thumbsup from what I know Vauxhall paid a fair bit towards chassis development.

I think the cupholder is a shared part too  Having said that the Elise has a 12v power supply rather than a cigar lighter (maybe to save weight :P )

THe "short roof" S2s are identical to our beloved cars in terms of struts and actual roof-y bit.

They're not identical. Liz will fit VX OK but not t'other way round - summat to do with a flap in the trailing edge iirc.

The rear cant rail brackets are the black fixings in the corners of the rear roll over bar. They provide the rear support for both the soft and hard tops. On earlier NAs (before approx 52 plates) they were lovely cast aluminium items. However, these do not support the rear fixings of the hardtop correctly. To fit a hardtop, you need to change them to the rubbish plastic ones found on later cars.

The part numbers are 9197328 (right) and 9197327 (left).

For the privillage of buying these inferior items from vauxhall the price is £17.35 + vat EACH

The part numbers for the Lotus items are C116B0466F (right) and C116B0467F (left).

the price for each side is............

43p +vat.

The aparts are identical. Please make your own mind up about where to purchase them from. ;)

someone had elise S2 roof cables, think they were £80 instead of the vauxhall new roof suggestion.

s2 roof cable cost me £22 + vat from lotus. Almost impossible to get it from vxl cause they are useless

dont know of any new parts but shame lotus drivers arent similar to vx ones, they seem to have their heads in the clouds, i always wave at them or give them a flash and 80 percent of them look blank... badge snobs? jealousy? or just plain rude...

Hi All Does anyone know if any of the interior trim on S2 is same as VX (in particular the gearbox shroud) as mine is in need of some TLC, not bloody paying the £300 quid that vxl quoted. I have quite a few bits that need sorting out and vxl take the P***. Cheers

Shared s2\VX parts

Track rod ends
Ball joints
Windscreen wiper
Radiator
Front Crash Box
Windscreen/ surround
Wing mirrors
windscreen wiper motor
Roof and parts
Brakes
Steering rack
Universal joints on the steering column
rear cant rail brackets (the black fixings in the corners of the rear roll over bar)
Left + Right Front radiator hoses (vaux = 3x price)

Since most of the front is the same, what about the fibreglass structure that goes around the crash box (holds the alarm sounder)?

Does anybody know if Elise suspension will fit on a VX, sure I have read about people fitting Exige suspension? It seems there is more choice and cheaper options for the Elise.
