Now before you answer to this, remember 'm a complete numpty and the most technical thing i'v ever done on my baby, is fill the windscreen water bottle (actually very acomplished at this task and i'm very proad of myself) I'v got the bulb, which willow gave me months and months ago and after my run yesterday, am getting really annoyed at not having it working. It's the front, nearside bulb that needs changing. Vxl want £25 to do it (if i supply the bulb) and i'm tempted but believe even a numpty has more chance of not! damaging my baby in the process of doing it, than their monkeys. Anyone got any advise on how to do it?..Is it a big job?..Can't imagine it is but i'm totally hopeless at these things. Day-off tomorrow, so i'm going to give it a try if anyone can talk me through a fools guide on how to do it (please) Any ideas or should i just get vxl to do it..

If it's the headlight - then you can either take the headlight off (one hex nut that you really mustn't drop), or take the front wheel and wheelarch liner off and get at it that way. Personally I changed all the bulbs by taking the unit off. If it's the side repeater, then the whole unit moves sideways then pops out... thumbsup thumbsup thumbsup

Is it the light in the front cluster or side repeater? If the front cluster:- 1] Take your cluster out [one bolt - you can get behind from by the rad] and swap it when out. 2] Pull your wheel arch out and do it in situe If side repeater:- Open your door - poke a long screwdriver down it and unclip the repeater casing. It will pop out for you to change the bulb. Chris chinky chinky

Sorry for not making it clear that it is the headunit light that has gone.. Still not convinced that it's a job i can complete myself ''don't drop the nut'' is just bound to happen (into the undertray i presume)..''pull-off wheel arch covers'' sounds the safer bet but is it just pull or undo afew screws first. How easy/hard is it to put them back-in? Thanks for your replys chaps..much appreceated.

wheelarch liner is about 4 screws. if you do decide to do it this way then do ensure that you either install an axle stand as a secondary precaution, should the jack slip. I usually put the removed wheel under the sill as an additional safety measure. Don't put your legs under the car unless it it fully secured and you really have to. It sounds more difficult than it really is! thumbsup

I'd really try and take the headlight unit out rather than going tot he trouble of jacking the car up, removing the wheel then the wheel arch liner and then fiddling about on your knees. It's only one screw that holds it in place. Honestly, open the bonnet and have a feel for it. it really is that easy. Once the headlight unit is out it's just a case of unscrewing the relevant bulb holder and replacing the bulb. It will be a 10 min tops job (it would take me longer to jack up the car and remove the wheel let alone do all the rest) thumbsup edited to add that if you're really that worried about dropping the nut, place a magazine or something under the bolt to catch it if it falls thumbsup

£25 ???!!!! for a 5 min job  Well, it is indeed only one nut (13 mm), that holds the whole headlamp unit in place. Access is gained from the front bonnet - absolutely no need to take off wheels and so on!!! Loosen this nut; take it off along with the washer and the "bracket" - be careful not to drop the parts !, and the headlamp slides out. It will make the job easier if you have a short-length "spanner" with a ratchet (sorry, language-problems  ) It's not necessary to disconnect the headlamp harness (in order to change the bulbs), BUT it's not very difficult either... after that it's pretty straight-forward thumbsup It's a definite DIY (especially vs. £25 at vxl) ;) Headlamp assy.:

Just seen this post - why don't you come round for that cuppa and we can have a go at sorting this together? At least before spending £25! :o Nat ps. the cuppa offer was prevously posted in another thread 'sad' (in case you read this one first!)

Sounds like a plan (thank-you millions for the offer nat)

I was going to get her out for a trip to the valleters tomorrow because after the 300 miles of welsh twisties, she's even more dirty than she was (still got the cats paw prints up the back though)

So, i'll take her for a clean (no room here to do it) and pop upto yours after, say about 9:30 (or is that too early)

Thank-you once again for your very kind offer, i do get unreasonably worried putting my clumsy hands anywhere other than on the steering wheel, so your assistance/prompting will be much appreciated..cheers.

Is it just a clean you are taking her for? cos you might as well do it at mine for free. Got a jet wash for the alloys and all the other equipment to clean her with? Might get my baby out again and re-clean her (did her on Sat) but we could do them together? 9.30am is fine by me, or 9 if we clean them together. Ill need to be leaving home to head to Essex by about 1-2pm at the latest, working in Southend on Sea on Thursday. Let me know Nat
