Didn't want to spill acid, so I pulled mine straight out. I did snip the cable ties on the wiring harness and moved that out of the way, but otherwise the hole is large enough. The brake lines were the biggest worry.

Where does the acid spill from if the cell filler screws are tightly closed ? Haven't been drain pipes in lead acid batteries for donkeys 'ears have there ?

Not on mine Tone. Where would it drain in the VX - onto the alloy floor of the battery compartment ? * gulp !* I ache today ! Changing the battery is hard for an IT nonce ! :)

Reminds me of the first time I tried to put the washer bottle back in after removing it. There's a cable in a plastic shroud (Think it's for the heater controls) which gets in the way every time no matter what you try. At one stage I had to go inside and have a sit down for 5 minutes before I smashed the thing in rage!

I also used the "belt-method" + Mark Verbooms how-to when I replaced my battery about a year ago :D also I had to place the battery on it's side before lifting it up because it was so tight :P

Sorry to bring up an old thread but does anyone know what battery fits the VX best? I need to get a new one today and won't be seeing the car so can't measure it!

Batteries with the code 063 are the correct fitment but best to measure the dimensions of your old battery and double check against the new one. I fitted a Bosch Silver S4 back in January which cost £44 from a local independant parts supplier. (Comes with a 4 year guarantee). Avoid halfrauds unless you've got a trade card cos they're massively overpriced. Previous thread. http://www.vx220.org...1

I got it from a motor parts shop in wolverton. Can't remember the name but it's opposite the agora centre. If you need a hand fitting, drop me a pm. chinky chinky ETA - think it was this place on church street in Wolverton http://www.hotfrog.c...es/King-Meakins http://kingandmeakins.co.uk/ No problems with the quality of the battery so far. Although they didn't have it in stock in the shop when I went it they got hold of it within 2 hours. Great service.

... or if you do need to get one ASAP, I have a Halfords Trade card, and also live close to the place Wolfstone got his battery from, if they have not got one in stock. Works out about the same price AFAIK...

Thanks to all for the advice.  I shall remove the battery today (with leather belt, if needed), and purchase a new battery tomorrow.   Looking forward to a sunny day...

Hi Mike.....have a look here for suggestions on a Bosch S4 (4 year warranty) from eurocarparts or carparts4less. Should be able to get one for under 40 notes. I put an S4 in about 6 years ago and it's still going strong. http://www.vx220.org...y/#entry1835524
